PATRICIA (LYNETTE) HALLA- HAN Patricia Hallahan of Blyth passed away peacefully at Wingham and District Hospital on Friday, Jan. 28, 2000 in her 92nd year. She was the beloved wife of the late John T. Hallahan and dear moth­ er of Betty and her husband Elton Ehgoetz of Stratford, Mike and his wife Agnes of RR3, Walkerton, Jim and his wife Lorraine of RR3, Blyth and Mary Ellen of Blyth. Patricia was the proud grandmoth­ er of 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in- law Beatrice Hallahan of Huronlea, Brussels. Mrs. Hallahan was predeceased by her parents Patrick Lynette and Elizabeth Downs, two sons Patrick and Dennis in infancy, son-in-law Jim McGregor, one brother and six sisters. She was a life-long member of St. Michael’s CWL. Family received friends at the Beattie Falconer Funeral Home (Tasker Chapel), Queen Street, Blyth on Sunday, Jan. 30 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Parish prayers were at 4 p.m. LondesboroThe news from Compiled by Brenda Radford Phone 523-4296 Snells greet at United Greeting at Londesboro United Church this past Sunday were Doug and Florence Snell. Tom and Marjorie Duizer were ushers. The flowers on the memorial stand were placed in loving memory of Angela Konarski by her family. Rev. Paul Ross invited the children to the front to have a closeup view of the sacrament of baptism. Amy Taylor Pellow was presented for baptism by her parents, Sean and Sara (Lyons) Pellow. The message was entitled Off to a Good Start and relevant scripture readings were Genesis 1: 1-5, Acts 19: 1-7 and Matthew 3: 13-17. The service on Feb. 6 will be conducted by members of the Youth Group. Coffee, juice and muffins will be served priorto the service. The manse committee reports good progress with their renovations. From now to the weekend you can call Tom or Lynda to help with painting, and cleaning or food for the workers. Seniors hear from OPP officer OPP Sr. Const. Don Shropshall was the guest of the Happy Gang Seniors at their January meeting. His talk centred on telephone fraud and scams. Const. Shropshall pointed out that these scam artists target seniors. He warned the group to never send money to anyone offering a prize or to dubious charities, to never give credit card numbers over the phone and to ask to have the information sent to you. The women were also given tips concerning their purses. Draws were made for four police HELP signs. The seniors will host a birthday party at Huronlea possibly on June 13. A yearly donation of $30 to Sleeping Children Around the World was agreed upon. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Michael’s Roman .Catholic Church, Blyth on Monday, Jan. 31 at ll a.m. by Brig. Gen. Rev. Murray Farwell a family member, assisted by Rev. Dino Salvador and Rev. Anthony Azzopardi. Flowerbearers were Elaine Kunda, Jim Steffler and Della Marie Houston. Pallbearers were Chris Hallahan, Jamie Hallahan, Patrick Hallahan, Ryan Hallahan, Mark McGregor, Stephen McGregor, Laura Nicholson and Patti Stoll. Spring interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Morris Twp. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cancer Hullett Happenings By Jillian, Lindsay and Marie Hullett’s kindergartens are learning about transportation. They are putting paint on the wheels of toy cars and trucks and driving them around on paper. Grade I is studying structures. In counting they are doing by 25s and fives. On Jan. 12 they had a contest to see who could guess the amount of five coins added together. They are spelling bigger words in Grade 2 by adding suffixes and prefixes. They have learned about the movement of rolling and spinning. They are studying the results of mixing primary colours. Grade 3 has studied and tested mazes. At the end of their unit about pioneers the class will dress like pioneers for a day. In Math, Grade 4 is working on multiplying and dividing. They are learning about cars in science and are also writing to pen pals. Watching the movie Gold Rush and doing a millennium project on hyperstudio is keeping Grade 5/6 busy. In language they are working on nouns. There is going to be a race in Grade 6/7 with the cars built in science. Fractions are the math study. Society would be greatly appreciated as expressions of sympathy. LAURA STRICKLER Laura H. (nee Hackney) Strickler, 84, of Huronlea, Brussels, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000 at Stratford General Hospital. Bom April 28, 1915 at Kirkton, ON she was a daughter of the late Charles Hackney and the former Helena Madge. She is survived by her husband Wilfred Strickler; her family John and wife Janet of Ingersoll, Sheila and husband Ralph Adams of RR 1, Atwood, Nancy and husband John Vanass of RR3, Brussels and Lome and wife Arlene of Monkton; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchil­ dren; sisters Margaret Waddell of Mitchell, Madge Dickson of Listowel and Ida Mary Hackney of Toronto and a sister-in-law Eva Shireman of Kitchener. Besides her parents, she was pre­ deceased by a brother and a sister Mabel Rogers. Family and friends were received at Peebles Funeral Home, 141 John St., Atwood, Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. where the funeral service was held Friday at 2 p.m. Rev. Lynn Nichol of Cranbrook Presbyterian Church officiated. Pallbearers were John and Lome Strickler, Ralph Adams, John Vanass, David Strickler and Darryl Vanass. Their efforts make going for the mail less challenging and definitely safer. The sympathy of the community is extended to Betty Popp on the death of her sister, Donna Rutledge, on Jan. 24.
