Unfortunately that was the end of the scoring for Blyth as charged-up home squad glided to victory. Jeff Elliott and Joel Salverda split the duties in the Bulldog net. In the first round of WOAA play off action the team was edged by a visiting Belmore squad, Jan. 20. Bokhout slipped a shot over the Belmore netminder on a pass by Cook and Brittney Peters to tie the game in the first. After Belmore jumped ahead again, Bokhout tied it once more on a nice pass by Blake Hesselwood and Josh Albrechtas in the second period. The final Blyth goal came in the third. Bokhout took a pass from Albrechtas then in Gretzky-like style from behind the net fed Cook who brought the squad within one of their opponents. Atoms win Continued from page 8 one. Sunday, Belmore was back in Blyth and proved their mettle com ing back from the previous day’s lopsided victory to take the series. With the ‘Dogs fans clearly behind them the Blyth squad jumped into a first-period lead when Cook, skating in alone after receiving a pass from Bokhout, beat out the goalie. With Belmore ahead again, Cook swept in front of the netminder and stuffed a backhander past him to close the gap to one. Seconds later, however, Belmore bulged the twine on an open net to give them some insurance. Elliott was solid in net frustrating the Belgrave players several times. The Bulldogs now move to the consolation side of the group play downs. Jim Oster, Jack Watson, Brent Brooks and Dean Whitfield drove in singles. Mike Bromley and Don Allen scored for the ‘Dogs. The squad met a tough opponent Friday evening when they took to the ice against Minto #l (Harris ton). In 45 minutes, straight-time play, Minto slid three by Brussels goalie Robert Cronin in the first three minutes. Cronin soon found his legs, deflecting two more shots in close, one on a break which he lifted with his shoulder. Brussels was down by several before Matt Huether was able to break through. Great defensive work by Cole McLean around his own net helped keep the shots clear of Cronin, then a backhand flip by Huether brought Brussels closer. Minto’s hot goalie stopped shots from Ray Huether, Rundstedler and Brendan Stretton. Nice passes by Andrew Watson helped set up plays in front of the Minto netmin der. Good work along the boards by Randy Zwep kept the puck moving, giving M. Huether the chance to pocket one more before the final buzzer. Saturday’s first game was against the Listowel Mustangs. Ty Sebastian and Gavin Bowers had excellent chances in the open ing minutes only to have the puck gloved by the goalie. Zwep worked hard to set up the shots.
