There will be comedy, mystery
and intrigue at the Blyth Festival
for the 2000 season
The summer will start with a
restaging of Death of the Hired
Man, an extremely popular show
from last year. Directed by Blyth
veteran Paul Thompson, the story
takes the audience back to the
threshing era and draws them into
the play as the entire theatre is
transformed into a barn setting.
Hired Man runs from June 1-17.
Anne, the story of the fabled red
head from Prince Edward Island,
will grace the stage for six weeks,
beginning June 21. The Lucy
Maude Montgomery classic will
charm the whole family.
Federal MP and playwright
Wendy Lili takes aim at an uncar
ing society in her sharp and surpris
ingly funny Corker, the tale of an
unusual legacy which disrupts the
lives of an affluent couple. The
play runs from June 28 to Aug. 5.
A timeless Canadian classic for
the entire family and a Blyth-com-
missioned script, Drawer Boy, not
only returns to the Festival where it
premiered, but is also scheduled for
production across the country, the
United States and Australia. It is
the story of two Huron County
farmers who billet an actor
researching The Farm Show and
find their lives changed as the three
interact. Drawer Boy plays from
July 25 through Aug. 26.
Renowned playwright Peter Col
ley, author of I'll Be Back Before
Midnight, returns to Blyth with a
chilling true-life tale. Stolen Lives-
The Albert Walker Story, retraces
the steps of Albert Walker, a small
town Ontario resident who went
from singing in the local church
choir to disappearing with his
daughter and a great deal of his
neighbours’ money then turning up
five years later in England charged
with murder. Stolen Lives runs
from Aug. 1-19.
To close out the 2000 season,
Blyth Festival is bringing back one
of the favourites from last year.
The sell-out, When the Reaper
Calls, also by Colley, will keep the
audience guessing to the end with
