Grey supports protest of OMAFRA closures The final 1999 meeting of Grey Twp. council was held on Dec. 20 and council passed a resolution to endorse the draft restructuring proposal for the Town of Seaforth,- the Village of Brussels and the Twps. of Grey, McKillop and Tuckersmith. The draft proposal will be forwarded to the County of Huron and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs. The new municipality will be called the Municipality of Huron East. Council also drafted and endorsed a resolution protesting the closure of the OMAFRA agricultural field offices and called for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to cancel the reorganization of its field offices and to immediately commence a consultation process with agricultural organizations to ascertain the needs and requirements of Ontario farmers. The resolution will be circulated to all municipalities in Ontario. A resolution from Seaforth with regard to* the impact of proposed school closings was endorsed. Council expressed its opposition to provincial funding formulas for education. Council also endorsed a resolu­ tion from CRASH (Canadians for Responsible and Safe Highways) aimed at improving government trucking policies. A resolution was passed authorizing Lyle Martin to continue as the Maitland Valley Conserva­ tion Authority representative, conditional on approval from the Twp. of Howick and the Village of Brussels. Vince Smith was authorized to issue the 2000 dog tags. Council approved accounts totalling $30,818.72 for payments. At its first meeting of 2000 on Jan. 3 council made the following appointments to local boards and committees: Brussels Medical- Dental Centre board, Graeme MacDonald and Dale Newman; Brussels, Morris and Grey board of recreation management. Alvin McLellan, Mervyn Bauer, Steve Knight and Darwin Ducharme; community oriented policing committee, John Saxon and Robin Dunbar; Walton landfill committee, Lyle Martin and Helen Cullen; Huron County Farm and Home Safety Association, Mervyn Bauer; Ethel minor ball committee, Gary Boyer, Brenda Boyer, Wendy Cla-rk, Evon Cochrane, Jane Stewart, Susan Cox and Wayne Henry; Huron Plowmen’s Association, Graeme MacDonald, Marie Perrie; Seaforth Hospital board, Howard Hackwell; the Huron East transition board, Robin Dunbar and Alvin McLellan. In other business, accounts totalling $49,631.57 were approved for payment. The next regular meeting of Council is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. Huron Network begins new year Snow much fun Though making travel a little precarious from time to time the heavy snow that fell through much of the area offered up some extra holiday fun for youngsters. All meetings are at the Truck tips in Perth With no injuries, no leaks and lit­ tle damage, an overturned Sparling Propane tanker was put back on its wheels by a company crane Mon­ day after it had slowly tipped over. Sebringville OPP report the Thieves take fountain On Dec. 30 at approximately 1 a.m. a person was awakened at his residence on Con. 1 in McKillop Twp. near Dublin. The man saw two young males stealing the base from a water fountain on OMAFRA/MNR offices in Clinton, usually on the third Thursday of the month starting at 9 a.m. The public is welcome to attend the next two meetings when special presentations are planned. On Nov. 18 Gabe Del Bianco, president of Innerfit Counselling and consulting in Aubum, will offer a very timely presentation on Self-Care. Then on Jan. 20, 2000, at the annual general meeting, there will be a presentation on conflict resolution with Jane Muegge. For many years, she has been a very energetic facilitator/presenter in the area. She is well known for her enthusiasm and innovative presentations. The Network always welcomes new members to the meetings.
