Michelle Carter and Rebecca Bruton were in charge of the nursery. The senior choir sang Christmas Message, accompanied by Elizabeth Procter. The Old Testament reading was from Corinthians 13: 1-13 and the gospel reading was from Matthew 1: 18-23 and John 3: 16-21. Children’s time centred on Love. The contemporary reading was If There Had Been a Christmas by Helen Steiner Rice. The sermon was entitled Love Came Down at Christmas. Joyce Vincent and Shawn Cottrill took up the offering. Lois and Stuart Chamney greeted greet worshippers and handed out the Service of Worship at Knox United Church on Sunday, Dec. 26. Bruce Whitmore, the guest speaker, welcomed the congregation. The senior choir sang God of Ages, accompanied by Elizabeth Procter. The gospel reading was taken from Luke 2: 22-40 read by Melissa Whitmore. Children’s time was about candy canes. A candy cane is special with red meaning love, said Mr. Whitmore. Jesus gave his life and the stripes all around a candy cane symbolize the crown of thorns; and the white for purity. (lower town of Wingham). The couple had been away for the day between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. and when they got home found that someone had entered an unlocked shed and stolen three snowmobiles valued at approximately $18,000, a 1997 Polaris Indy XLT 600, 1997 Polaris Indy 500 Classic and a 1999 Polaris Indy 488 Trail snowmobile. Tracks left in the snow showed the three vehicles had been driven away. Two days later a property owner located two snowmobiles in a bushlot four kms. east of county Rd. 4 in Tumberry Twp. These two snowmobiles were returned to the owners. Police are still looking for the 1997 Polaris Indy XLT 600 snowmobile which is teal green in colour.
