(Vicky Bremner photo) Blyth Atom Bulldogs lose 2 The Blyth Atom Bulldogs suf­ fered two losses in December play, going down to Brussels Dec. 23, and Milverton Dec. 30. Darcey Cook was fired up for the match against Brussels when he picked up the pass from Richard Gregg and walked in alone to fire the shot on Brussels netminder Kyle Gibson. Cook struck again at the 2:21 mark of the first. Brandon Kelling- ton earned the assist. Josh Albrechtas picked up on the scoring at 12:58 of the second with a great solo effort. John Bokhout hit for Blyth’s last netter on a pass from Cook and Justin Dobie at 3:30 of the third. In spite of strong goaltending efforts by Jeff Elliott and Joel Salverda, Blyth was unable to stop the Brussels shooters. Brussels notched five goals for the win. Scoring for the visiting team were Matt White (two), Greg Bow­ ers, Andrew McDonald and Jordan Campbell. Assists went to Steve Ropp, Scott Phillips (two), James Roberts and Campbell. Milverton edged Blyth 4-3 in their contest. Milverton struck first, but Albrechtas evened the score at 4:26 of the first. Elliott assisted. Milverton built a two-goal lead through two before Blyth got back on the board. Good work by Cook and Blake Hesselwood set up Brittany Peters at 8:10 of the third. Hesselwood and Cook got the puck to Bokhout for the tie at 7:42. Milverton slid one in for the win Blyth At the Dec. 20 euchre at Blyth Memorial Hall there were seven tables in play. Winners were: high, Ruth Jardin, Graeme McDowell; low, Jean Nethery, Edythe Giousher; most lone hands, Mary Craig. Cards are played every Monday night. Prizes were donated by the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. with just 3:10 remaining. Elliott and Salverda both had solid games in net. Lucky truck winner It was a very merry Christmas for John Wharton of RR3, Blyth when he became the owner of a 2000 Chevy Z71 extended cab pickup. Wharton’s name was drawn Dec. 24 as the grand prize winner in the Blyth Bulldogs fundraising raffle. The raffle was organized by a group of Blyth hockey coaches to establish the Blyth and District Community Centre Capital fund. The Blyth Bulldog Midgets compiled a 5-1 win-loss record through December, upping their overall record to 13 wins and 5 losses for 1999. The Bulldogs defeated Lucknow 6-0 and Elma-Logan 12-2 early in December. A short-staffed squad played in Mildmay Dec. 16 but despite good defense could not put the puck in the net and lost 2-0. The Bulldogs hosted Hensall Dec. 19. The home team spotted Hensall two early goals and then stormed back to post a 9-3 win. Despite the loss the Hensall netminder did a superb job, with his team being outshot 69-11. Goal scorers for Blyth were Scott Austin, two; Graham Worseil, two; Matt Anderson, two and Dave Ansley, Cole Stewart and Craig Marks. Recording assists were Derek Cook, three; Ansley, three; Marks, three; M. Anderson, Stewart and Tyler Stewart. Travis Campbell provided steady goaltending for Blyth. The next night, Blyth hosted a strong Wingham club. The teams battled back and forth and were deadlocked at two after two periods. Ansley put the game away for Blyth scoring a natural hattrick in the third frame for a 5-2 win. Marks added two goals and assists went to Marks, three, Ansley, T. Stewart, M. Anderson and C. Stewart. Dean Wilson played a strong game in the Blyth net. The Midget Bulldogs’ schedule resumed Jan. 3 hosting Mildmay. Two positions are available on Tuesdays, 1-2 hours per day. If you feel you are one of those two people, please call us for information on our eligibility criteria, interview process and mileage reimbursement policy.
