A Note from Betty
Memories - memories - that’s all that is left of Christmas 1999.1 hope you
had a good time surrounded by loved ones. Lots of visitors were in the
village, great decorations everywhere you looked and lots of catching up
with old friends. It really is a very special time.
A good memory for me was the Optimist wagon ride, a beautiful winter
night, festive lights, good company, bales of hay and Christmas music.
Thanks to the organizers and workers from the club. You’ve got a great
tradition going.
2000 - that sure is strange to write but I’m sure we’ll soon get used to it. I
hope you watched some of the TV coverage of the new century celebrations,
folks enjoying the moment as community. We really are all a lot alike.
Keeping track of the time lines as the New Year started around the world
made you realize the importance of the global society, the continuous
coverage as each new spot of geography joined the new century was a
memory maker for me.
I hope you were part of the parties and dances and firecrackers or
shotguns that heralded in the year 2000.
Now it’s time to read that book or clean out the drawers and closets. No
more need to hustle. Christmas is past.
Bye now,
Betty G.

Atoms down Zurich 6-2
On Dec. 20 the Brussels Atom
Reps travelled to Zurich.
Neither team-was able to score in
the first period of the game. Then
Zurich scored twice in the second
period before Brussels was able to
shoot one past the opposing
goaltender. Later Adam McClure
scored on a pass from Mitch Blake
then Christopher Jutzi scored an
unassisted goal less than a minute
later to end the scoring in the
second period.
Brussels dominated the third
period scoring four goals. Goals
were scored by McClure, Jutzi,
Andrew McDonald and Matthew
White. Assists were earned by Greg
Bowers (two) and Doug Schnock.
The final score of the game was 6 -
2 for Brussels.
Dec. 23 Brussels went to Blyth.
Darcey Cook from Blyth started
the scoring on a pass from Richard
Gregg. Brussels then scored two
very quick goals a minute later.
Matt White scored on a pass from
McClure and Scott Phillips then
Greg Bowers shot one in on a pass
from James Roberts. Two minutes
later, Phillips scored a goal of his
own on a pass from White. Twenty
seconds

Blyth managed to come one goal
closer when John Bokhout scored
with assistance from Justin Dobie.
The final score of the game was 5 -
4 for Brussels.
Dec. 27 the Brussels Atoms
travelled to Howick. Both teams
seemed to have suffered from too
much Christmas turkey as neither
managed to score in the first
period.
In the second Bowers received a
pass from Steve Ropp and shot it
past the goaltender. Howick’s
Trevor Ruttan shot the puck past
netminder Kyle Gibson on a power
play goal a minute later. Bowers
scored his second goal of the game
when Mitch Blake and Doug
Schnock set him up.

on a short-handed play. Cory
Chapman got his chance at a goal
when Jutzi and Schnock passed it
back to open ice giving Chapman a
perfect shot at the net. White
scored again when Bowers and
Chapman set him up in front of the
net. White got a hattrick when
McClure passed the puck over to
him on a rush back to the Howick
end.
The game ended with Brussels
scoring six goals to Howick’s one.
