Agriculture Brussels Livestock report Fed steer, heifer prices sharply higher Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending Aug. 15 were 2,159 head of cattle, 435 lambs and goats. On Tuesday, the fed steers and heifers sold on a sharply higher market. The cows traded steady. On Thursday the veal traded at prices $ 10 to $ 12 higher on a strong demand. The light lambs also sold on a strong demand with prices sharply higher. The heavier lambs sold at prices steady to last week. On Friday calves sold on a steady market while the yearlings sold $5 to $10 higher. The fed steers and heifers sold at prices $1 to $2 higher There were 802 steers on offer selling from $50 to $60 with sales to $80. Murray Wagg, Mitchell, con­ signed ten charolais steers averaging 1.137 lbs. selling for an average price of $78.82 with sales to $80. Eleven steers consigned by Jim Howatt, Londesborough, averaged 1,433 lbs. selling for an average price of $62.56 with his top two black steers averaging 1,388 lbs. selling to Dominion Meats for $79. Prospect Feed Lots, Wyoming, consigned one grey heifer weighing 1,060 lbs. which sold for $69. Their overall offering of eight heifers aver­ aged 1,135 lbs. selling for an aver­ age price of $56.36. Twelve heifers consigned by Muxlea Farms, Woodstock, averaged 1,381 lbs. sell­ ing for an average price of $50.31 with their top limousin heifer weigh­ ing 1,240 lbs. selling to Dominion Meats for $69. There were eight bulls on offer selling from $15 to $25 with sales to $29.50. One blonde bull consigned by Brent Weber, Mildmay, weighed 1,815 lbs. selling to Dominion Meats for $29.50.
