Canoe day at Hullett Wildlife Area There will be a community canoe day at the Hullett Provincial Wildlife Area on Saturday, June 7. Everyone will meet at the office at 9 a.m. and be shuttled to the starting location. They will canoe the South Maitland River and David Beamer (Hullett Marsh manager) will be leading the group, explaining what is seen, and answering any questions. The canoe run will end at approximately 1 p.m. The event is free (but donations are welcomed). Canoeing beginners will be more than capable of navigating this run as there is a slow current. There will be at least one portage (100 feet), and there will be lots of people to help those who need it. Participants are required to bring their own canoe and safety equipment. There are two barbecues and a picnic area at the office for anyone to use after the run. Bring your own food. theRepresenting the school at board-wide meet on June 10 will be Adam and Chris Corbett, Cousins, Aitchison, Andrew Baker, Wade Stephenson, Tiffany Roetcisoender, McLeod, Breanne Wheeler, Felicia Darlow, Fernandez. The Corbett brothers tied for overall senior bantam champion at the North Huron meet on May 29 at F.E. Madill Secondary School. WINGHAM AND DISTRICT HOSPITAL CORPORATION Notice is hereby given that the Annual Meeting of the Wingham and District Hospital Corporation will be held at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex, Knights of Columbus Lounge, 99 Kerr Drive, Wingham, Ontario on Thursday, June 12, 2003 at the hour of seven p.m. (7:00 p.m) for the election of Directors; for the appointment of Auditors; and for the transaction of other such things as may properly come before the meeting. Copies of the Annual Report, Hospital Financial statements and amended Bylaws may be obtained at the Emergency Entrance of the Wingham & District Hospital, effective June 5, 2003 and at the Annual Meeting. Elections will be held for two Directors in the Central Zone, and one Director in the Western Zone. Nominations for these positions will be received up to and at the Annual Meeting on June 12, 2003. Due to circumstances regarding SARS, a membership, granting voting privileges may be purchased by pre-registering with Mrs. B. Ritchie at 357-3210, Ext. 216 prior to five o’clock p.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2003. No membership sold after that time will entitle the purchaser to vote. The membership fee is five dollars ($5.00). WINGHAM & DISTRICT HOSPITAL HIGHLIGHTS NOTICE OF RESTRICTED SERVICES Friday, June 13, 2003 will be observed as a Statutory Holiday at the Wingham & District Hospital. Emergency Services only will be provided as is our practice for any Statutory Holiday. VISITOR POLICY Visit from family members or close friends is an important part of any patient’s stay in hospital. Please remember that this is also a privilege and the hospital requires your co-operation with the following: Visiting Hours: 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Two visitors per patient at a time. Wash hands with antiseptic hand wash when entering and leaving the hospital, also, if you assist with patient care, wash hands before and after doing so. Do not visit if you are feeling unwell. ONTARIO HEALTH COVERAGE Need a new or replacement health card? The Ministry of Health will be at the hospital on June 19th. An appointment must be booked by calling 519-675-6710. AUXILIARY MEETING Auxiliary Meeting will be held on June 23rd at 1:30 p.m. in the Terrace Room. CHOLESTEROL EDUCATION DAY This program will be offered on June 24th from 1:30-3:00 p.m. in Room 107 of the Hospital. A doctor’s referral is required. Nicholas Wheeler, the oldest son of Scott and Lori Wheeler and grandson of Dolores Wheeler and Cec Moore of Brussels will be attending Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA., located in the Allegheny Mountains. Wheeler will be pursuing a degree in business while competing Beekeeping, topic at Belgrave WI The May Belgrave WI meeting began with a reading by the president, Kay Roberts, who welcomed 18 members and four guests. The program convenor introduced speaker, Janna Dodds from Brussels, who is the parish nurse of Melville Presbyterian church. She spoke on beekeeping and the benefits of the hive. She demonstrated a beehive and explained the purpose of each box. There is one queen bee and many workers per hive. When the frame is full of honey it goes into an extractor to remove the honey. Pasteurized honey has many of the natural vitamins removed. When working around bees wear light-coloured clothing, a hat and a net to prevent stings. Janna recommended using honey instead of sugar of baking. Geranium plants were given several lucky ladies. 9 tables to at euchre There were nine tables of euchre in play on Wednesday, May 28 in the Women’s Institute Hall. Winners were: high lady, Irlma Edgar; second high lady, Lois Chamney; most lone hands, Norma Moore; most twos, Viola Adams; high man, George Inglis; second high man, George Michie; most lone hands, Ross Taylor; most twos, Walter Elliott. There is euchre on Wednesday, June 4 at 8 p.m. in the Northeast Conference of NCAA division one. Wheeler has been playing golf since the age of six and started working at the West Haven Golf & Country Club in London. He is now employed part-time at the Forest City National Golf Club in London where his father is golf course superintendent. Last summer, Wheeler finished third at the Ontario Junior Championship in Windsor where The business meeting began with the opening exercises and the minutes read by Doreen Marks. Several members will attend the district annual meeting to be held in Dungannon. Convenors for the meals to be catered during the summer were named and will meet June 11 at the hall to plan. A fireproof box for important paper has been purchased. A donation will be made to the Children’s Health Telethon. The Memorial service at Brandon Cemetery will be on July 6. The speaker at the June meeting will be from the Good Food Box program. Tips for responsible gambling (NC) - For many people, gambling is exciting and entertaining. Wheeler also travelled to Saskatoon, SK. to compete in the Canadian junior championship as a member of the Ontario provincial junior team. Team Ontario placed second out of the 10 prov­ inces. Nicholas has also qualified to play in the Canadian Men’s Amateur in Edmunston, New Brunswick.
