Ushering was Elaine Brown. Guest musician was Margaret Kai. The choir sang How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place. The children’s hymn was Para, Para, Piller Pat. For the children’s story Rev. Eugen Bannerman showed them a garden stick with a quote on it, “Kiss of the Sun for Pardon, Song of the birds for mirth, one is nearer God’s heart in the garden than anywhere else on earth”. He told the children that God’s first job was to make a garden and then He made Adam and Eve to live in the garden. When the sun kisses us, it makes us feel good, the songs of the birds make us cheerful, Rev. Bannerman said. God made many different kinds of flowers as He did many different kinds of people in this world. The dramatized lectionary reading was from Acts 17: 16-34. Those taking part were Amelia Carter- Brown and Brandilyn, Amanda and Wyatt Bearss. The responsive reading was Psalm 1. The Epistle Reading was 1 Corinthians: 34-37. Rev. There were 15 members present with seven guests from Auburn UCW. Jan Vodden was the speaker. She spoke on the flowers of the Bible. Before 1700 there was no universal system for identifying flowers. Poppies, larkspur, tulip and narcissus are all mentioned in the Bible. Jan had a display of flowers and herbs she grows in her garden, which are all mentioned in the Bible. Corn, used as grain, was not identified outside North America until the settlers came. In the Middle East, thistle-like plants that don’t need a lot of water were grown. Gideon used thorn trees to fight. Hebrews in exile brought grape, melon and cucumber seeds from Egypt. Watchmen lived in temporary shelters to watch the crops and seeds. Olive trees may live 1,000 years. The Hebrews used olive oil for cooking and lighting their lamps. Noah grew a vineyard after the flood and was the first person to make wine. After her speech members could purchase plants for a donation to the church. The next meeting is Thursday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. On Monday, June 9 there is a potluck lunch at Camp Bimini with registration at 9 a.m. FROM BLYTH \ QUESTIONS?
