June 6 is the anniversary of the
Canadian soldiers landing on Juno
Beach. It was 59 years ago that
14,000 Canadian soldiers and more
allied soldiers landed on the beaches
of Normandy on the coast of France.
By land, air and sea the troops began
foicing the Germans back through

Things are just a little too damp for
my liking, but as usual my opinion
on the weather and other world
affairs is not an issue and so all I can
do is mutter a little. The rain caused
a lot of disappointment on Saturday
as the yard sales were reduced in
numbers because of the damp and
the wanderers who were out scouting
the treasures had to deal with the
drearies and increasing cold.
The car show was cancelled for the
day but it will be rescheduled.
Reports of good times were heard
from both buyers and sellers and so
the day was not a loss for every
one.
Be sure to get out for a nice
leisurely walk and admire all the
blooms and colour in our village.
The many flowering trees along
Tumberry Street are worth admiring
and the personal gardens have a fine
offering of variety and splendour.
Don’t miss it.
Kids Korner is in need of adult
volunteers to help with the planning
and execution of this year’s Vacation
Bible School, August 11-15. If you
can help, phone Yvonne Dettweiler
or Julie Mitchell.
I have the binoculars packed and
the bird book in pocket. We’re away
in Point Pelee and Pelee National
Park to check on the bird population
and the rest of the goodies of that
area for a little change.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
