While there was considerable discussion on what the $5,000 to $15,000 grant could do for the Blyth facility, it was felt that the project might not be a priority for the funding. Clerk-Administrator John Stewart said that county librarian Beth Ross stated the province would be leaning towards accessibility. While both Wingham and Blyth need to be expanded, such work would be “low on the list,” Stewart said. There is an access problem at Blyth with regards to a reading area. However, as that facility is quite cramped, there was reluctance about putting momey into any construction. “I don’t know if I would want to put money towards it when we may have to change it down the road,” said Stewart. The possibility of the Blyth library as a level two facility being closed, was raised by Councillor Jeff Howson. Deputy-Reeve Murray Scott said however, that while that notion is “certainly out there, at the moment I don’t think it will happen.” Howson said that just because the money was available it didn’t mean council had to apply. “Would it be better to hold off for a year? I hate putting in for money if it’s not going to be dollars well spent.” Stewart said that he didn’t know if there was going to be another round for this particular grant. He also noted that to get into an extensive renovation the money would not go a long way. It was after Scott brought up the small room at the Wingham library and the fact that it is under-used that council decided to use the money to try and improve on that.
