Dr.
Taylor
receives
service
award
Dr. Ron Taylor, formerly of East
Wawanosh, was honoured April 17
at the presentation ceremony at the
Arts and Culture Centre, St. John’s,
Newfoundland, when he received
the 2002 Public Service Award of
Excellence.
The following is the presentation
address given by fellow veterinarian
Dr. Robert Hudson:
“As one of the original field
veterinarians providing full-time
farm animal veterinary services to
support a growing agriculture
industry, Ron helped create many of
the high standards farmers expect
today.”
In 1975 Ron came to this
province, for a short stay, to work
with the newly-created Veterinary
Services Division. Now, 28 years
later, he has taken only six sick days
and for months, at a time, has
provided 24-hour emergency on-call
service including evenings,
weekends, and holidays - an
exemplary record.
Ron is held in the highest regard
by the people he serves, and the
growth of the dairy industry in the
eastern region from a few family
farms to a multi-million dollar
industry has been aided, in no small
part, by his dedication.
Ron has also helped the future
veterinarians of the province and the
country.
His support of students in
completing their in-field hours and
his service to the provincial and
national veterinary medical
associations are indicative of his
caring.
Ron’s dedication to his profession,
the public service, and to his clients
- the farmers - goes unchallenged,
not just in the public service but in
society as a whole. He has set the
benchmark for service quality
delivery.”
One week later April 24 Dr. Taylor
was invited to Government House
where he was presented with the
Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal by
the Lieutenant Governor of
Newfoundland.
Dr. Taylor received his education
at S.S. 13, East Wawanosh, F.E.
Madill Secondary, the University of
Guelph and Ontario Veterinary
College.

Tenants to pay deposit
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
North Huron council at its May 5
meeting adopted an interim policy
requiring that a security deposit be
paid for rental tenants’ water
accounts.
Clerk-Administrator John Stewart
explained that while many tenants
are quite good, there is an increasing
number who don’t pay their water
bills.
The deposit would be an
approximate two-months water
billing. “It is very similar to what
was in place with the Wingham and
Blyth PUCs,” said Stewart.
When tenants move from a rental
property, if they have paid their
water bills, they will be re-imbursed
for the deposit.
“We know it’s money that the
tenant must come up with but we are
