Sports Lightning strikes for win Thursday, May 8, the Blyth Lightning Mosquitoes flashed across the soccer field winning their first game of the season, 5-4 against the Clinton Crushers. Blyth came on strong with an early goal, which was called off, due to a player being off-side. Undeterred Anthony Peters scored within minutes, with Tyson Sjaarda assisting. Sjaarda scored the second goal on a penalty shot, then not allowing the opposing team time to think, scored the third, with Jory-Lynn Uyl assisting. North Perth Midget laeross team begins season with 12-2 win The North Perth Midgets played their first game of the season and managed to get past Minto with a 12 - 2 win. Players this year are from Brussels, Wingham, Listowel, Mitchell, Monkton and area. Starting the scoring was Ashton Nichol on a pass from Justin Erb in just over one minute of play. Tyler De Vos stretched the twine on a pass from Matt Tell. David Fitzgerald scored on a pass from Jason Hamilton and minutes later, Hamilton scored one of his own on a pass from De Vos. Ending the scoring Four minutes later, Clinton came back on a penalty shot, making the score 3-1 in the first half of play. Minutes into the second half, Clinton scored again. Ten minutes later Sjaarda scored, with Uyl assisting. Clinton came back strong, receiving two goals, the second goal being a penalty shot. But Blyth was not to be outdone, Peters scored the winning goal, with Sjaarda getting the assist, making an exciting game for the Lightning squad. in the first period was Xavier O’Krafka on a pass from Jason Kuepfer. Liam Madge, goalie for North Perth, let the first ball into the net part way through the second period. Fitzgerald answered quickly on a pass from Tony DeBlock. Cory Chapman got his first goal of the game on a pass from Hamilton. De Vos got his second and third point of the game on a pass from Adam MacDonald. Brett Hunt scored unassisted to wrap up the scoring in the second period. Pressure ensued in the third period Between the posts were Jordan Good and Blaine Hallahan. It was a great team effort. This year the Blyth Lightning Mosquito team is coached by Peter Uyl and Hillie VanAmersfoort. Players are Tony Bean, Brandy Bearss, Brittany Bos, Daniel Bouman, Jordan Good, Blaine Hallahan, Jenny MacDonald, B.J. Nethery, Jessica Nethery, Paul Oudshoom, Tom Oudshoom, Jamie Parish, Anthony Peters, Gerritt Reinink, Luke Siertsema, Tyson Sjaarda, Jessica Sparling and Jory- Lynn Uyl. and Nichol scored his second of the game on a pass from Chapman and O’Krafka. Hamilton scored his second goal and fourth point of the game on a pass from Tell. Minto’s second and last goal of the game was answered in the final seconds by De Vos on a pass from Erb. North Perth Midgets picked up a few new players this year. They are coached by Erica Coghlin, assisted by Kathy Hunt. The next home game is May 28 at 9 p.m. in the North Huron Wescast Complex against Brantford. Careful now East Wawanosh Public School students took part in the annual Jump Rope for Heart on Friday afternoon. The students rotated to different stations, set up in the gym and outside, which each had a different activity for them to try.
