Birthdays last week were Betty Knight and Will Knight. A number of people from Cranbrook travelled to the Brussels Legion Friday evening for their weekly supper. We would encourage others to attend their meals to support the Legion. The day-long session which looks at safety both on and off the farm, began at Walton Public School prior to its closure in 2000 and moved to Grey Central with principal Alice McDowell. “With triple the students attending, we also tried to triple the displays this year,” she said. Though they didn’t quite reach that number, they do expect more than 100 exhibits which will include bike and lawnmower safety, presentations by the Ontario Farm Safety Association, OPP, Hydro One, numerous farm equipment dealers and suppliers, fuel distributors, ATV club, Ministry of Natural Resources and Maitland Valley Conservation Authority as well as many others. The guest speaker will be from War Amps. All the children will receive grab bags so they can collect valuable information and a few gifts. The farm safety day will go rain or shine, said McDowell, but rain will move the event to the BMG arena. Though rain was scheduled for later in the week, as of Monday afternoon, organizers still planned to hold it at the school. Everyone is welcome to attend. Protect your family against fire and deadly carbon monoxide. Have your heating system examined annually by a qualified service technician.
