Obituaries ANGELA BYLSMA-MOFFAT Angela Bylsma-Moffat, beloved infant daughter of Elizabeth Bylsma and Robert Moffat passed away at McMaster University Medical Centre, Hamilton on her birthdate Wednesday, April 23, 2003. She was the dear granddaughter of Jim and Dayle Moffat of RR 1, Wingham, and John and Ruby Bylsma of RR 1, Arva. She was also survived by great- grandparents Marguerite Fischer of RR1, Bluevale, Wobbe and Pietje Bylsma of Blyth and Yke Dykstra of Aylmer, and by several aunts and uncles. Angela was predeceased by her great-grandparents, George Fischer, Lloyd Dykstra and Cedril and Jean Moffat. A private cemetery service was held at the Wingham Cemetery on Saturday. Pastor John Kuperus offi­ ciated. LILA GOLL Lila Gertrude (McCrackin) Goll passed away at Braemar Retirement Centre, Wingham, on Sunday, April 20, 2003. Born on Sept. 13, 1914 in Howick Twp., Lila was in her 89th year. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry Goll. She was the dear mother of Lois McArter and her husband Mel and Marilyn Higgins and her husband Jack, all of Brussels. Lila was the dear sister of Vera Moffatt of Brussels and Lome McCrackin of Bluevale. She was the loving grandmother of Ken Higgins and his wife Kim, Debbie Oliver and her husband John, Doug McArter and his wife Rhonda, Kevin McArter and his wife Heather and Brian McArter and his wife Tanya. She was also loved by her 11 great­ grandchildren. Her infant son Harold and a sister Beth predeceased her. Friends were received by the fam­ ily from 7 - 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels, where the funeral was held Wednesday, April 23 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Joan Golden officiating. Pallbearers were Ken Higgins, Doug McArter, Kevin McArter, Brian McArter, Paul Moffatt, Murray Lowe and Ross Goll. Carrying floral tributes were Debbie and John Oliver, Rhonda McArter, Heather McArter, Tanya McArter and Kim Higgins. Interment was in Brussels Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Brussels United Church or to Braemar Retirement Centre. WILLIAM “BILL” McWhirter Bill McWhirter, formerly of Brussels, passed away at Victoria Hospital South Street Campus, London on Friday, April 25, 2003. Born in Saskatchewan on June 10, 1922, Bill was in his 81st year. He was the dear father of Daphne Redecopp and her husband Don of Victoria, B.C., Nancy Hynonen and her husband John of London, and Bill McWhirter and his wife Debrah of Ingelside, Texas. He was the dear brother of Pat Shaw and her husband Charlie of Blyth, George McWhirter and his wife Bernice of Kitchener, Mabel Willis of Brussels, Isabelle Norman and her husband George, Evelyn Kerr and her husband George, and Elsie Olsen and her husband Ralph, all of Saskatchewan. Bill was also loved by his six grand­ children. He was predeceased by his daugh­ ter Teresa Knisley, two brothers and a sister. At Bill’s request there was no funeral home visitation. Friends were received by the fam­ ily one half hour prior to the memo­ rial service conducted at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels on Tuesday, April 29 at 2 p.m. Pastor Leslie Cook officiated. Interment of cremated remains was followed by a Legion service under the auspices of Brussels Legion No. 218 at Brussels Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. ROSS LAWLESS Ross Lawless of St. Catharines, after a lengthy illness passed away on March 13, 2003 in his 78th year. He was the loving husband of Ruth (McDonald), father of Jan (Ralph) Ettles of Surrey, B.C., Jeff (Susan) of New Westminster, B.C., Don (Lynn) of St. Catharines and grandfather of Ryan, Krista, Greg, Dandle, Bradford, Sarah and Rosie. He was the cherished brother of Doreen Johnston, Doug (Dorothy) Keith. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Doig. Cremation was followed by a memorial service at First United Church, St. Catharines with Rev. J. J. Merian officiating. When I grow up ... Kindergarten students at Blyth Public School took a visit to the Blyth Firehall on Wednesday and Thursday this past week. Chief Paul Josling and Lieut. David Sparling con­ ducted the tours. The real treat for the youngsters, like Corey Ducharme, was getting the chance to try on some of the firefighter’s equipment.
