Beef Improvement Ontario (BIO)
has developed an on-line search tool
to assist beef producers looking for
BIO evaluated bulls or heifers. The
BEP/HDP On-Line Search Tool
(Bull Evaluation Program/Heifer
Development Program) allows users
to search for animals based on an
extensive range of criteria.
Producers may use this query tool to
compare their animals’ evaluation
results with other animals across the
province.
As well, this is a tool for potential
buyers to find the right animals for
their particular operation. The on
line query tool complements both
the bull evaluation and heifer
development reports produced by
BIO.
By visiting BIO’s website at
www.biobeef.com and clicking on
Links and choosing BEP/HDP
Query, beef producers can now
search for bulls and heifers based on
a whole host of criteria including
birth weight, weight per day of age
(WPDA), producer, average daily
gain (ADG), specific evaluation
group and for the more advanced
users - by across breed percentile
rankings for various genetically
evaluated traits. This bull and heifer
on-line search tool is best viewed
using Internet Explorer 5.0 or above
and all results can be printed. Simple
directions on how to use this
comprehensive search tool are
available on the website.
Scott Bothwell, BIO’s field
services supervisor said: “The
BEP/HDP On-Line Search offers
another venue for our clients to
showcase their animals while at the
same time providing potential
buyers a simple “electronic method”
to search for a bull or heifer which
meets their specific needs.”
This search tool also ties in with
BIO’s Source Qualified Ontario Calf
Program (SQOC). One of the SQOC
enrollment requirements is lhat
calves must be sired by an evaluated
bull with a post weaning gain
(PWG) rank in the top 75 per cent of
all bulls evaluated. This search tool
provides potential participants with
access to all current bulls on test to
ensure they meet this requirement.
To complement this on-line
service, clients seeking more
information, are encouraged to
contact the BIO office and speak
with BIO’s breeding consultants,
Brian Pogue or Jack McCoubrey or
BIO’s Field Services Supervisor,
Scott Bothwell at 1 (519) 767-2665
or l-(800) 373-2253 or visit BIO’s
