Grey Central Echo Students enjoy many Easter activities Grey Central’s spring concert took place Tuesday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. On March 25, interested parents had the great opportunity to meet with and obtain information from a range of community services at Grey Central’s Parent Information Evening. Presenters who made themselves available for the evening were: OPP Sr. Const. Don Shropshall; Doug Pratley, principal from Listowel District Secondary School; Joe Jankowski, principal from F.E. Madill; Kathleen Babcock, Rural Response for Healthy Children; Karen Cox, Huron County Health Unit; Judie Burns, Epilepsy Huron, Perth, Bruce; Evy McDonagh, Ontario Early Years. Sherry Burnfield, occasional teacher and parent, was instrumental in organizing this informative evening. In Mrs. Bowler’s class the students were busy doing Easter crafts such as making chicks and bunnies. They are learning Easter poems and singing Easter songs. Mrs. Smith’s kindergarten C class is working on the upper and lower case letters from H - M. They made Easter baskets and coloured hard- boiled eggs. Miss Hill’s Grade Is and 2s had lots of fun at their party. They worked hard preparing for the spring concert and getting ready for Easter. Mrs. Goodall’s Grade Is practised sign language for the spring concert and are learning subtraction in math. They watched their bean seeds grow in their zip-lock bag. They are really sprouting. They did many Easter crafts including: cotton ball bunny puppets, bingo dabber Easter eggs, bunny ear crowns, egg baskets and chicks hatching out of eggs. They also had an “eggs”- traordinary Easter egg hunt. Miss Aarssens’ Grade 4/5s are creating their own newspapers. They decorated plastic Easter eggs for Easter. Mr. Walker’s Grade 5s are learning about Leonardo DaVinci in science and the Grade 6s are doing electricity. Both grades had a film test on war movies for social studies and had a final probability test on Wednes­ day. Miss Henry’s Grade 7s are writing a story for language and are preparing -to present their French projects. They started a new history unit on the Loyalists and are continuing to learn about ecosystems. There was a dance for Grades 4-8 on Thursday afternoon. Everyone had great time. (Vicky Bremner photo) The May meeting of Cranbrook WMS was held on Tuesday, May 8 at the home of Eleanor Stevenson. Brenda Perrie opened the meeting by reading springtime and Easter poems from the Ideals book. Edges of Spring. Spring Fever, Faith Returns in Spring, Flowers Near the Cross and Easter song. Mrs. Perrie presented the Easter story, the plot against Jesus, the Passover meal with the disciples, Jesus praying in Gethsemane, the events of the crucifixion, the first meeting with Mary and the disciples, and Jesus’ ascension into heaven. Roll call was answered. Mrs. Stevenson and Mrs. Freda Crawford presented two topics from the Glad Tidings. The meeting closed by repeating the Mizpah Benediction and lunch was served. On Sunday, April 20 Kaitlyn Rose, daughter of Jeff and Nancy Knight was baptized in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Listowel. Rick, Naomi, Will and Andrew Knight spent Easter weekend with Leslie and Yvonne Knight. Gerald, Twyla and Elisabeth Knight from New Hamburg were in Listowel for the baptism too. Peter Workman from Ottawa and Craig and Lisa Workman from London spent Easter with Frank and Kathy Workman. Ken MacDonald was able to come home from Listowel hospital. Winners were: share-the-wealth, Mary Craig, Jim McGillawee; high, Marion Behms, Eileen Mann; low, Betty Kennedy, Adrian Verstoep, Bill Craig; lone hands, Edna McLellan, Marguerite Beirnes, Ross Stephenson, Keith Turnbull. The next euchre is April 28 at 8:30 p.m. Monday,May 5, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room at Seaforth Community Hospital Seaforth Community Hospital's Alliance with Clinton, St, Marys and Stratford Hospitals will be discussed.
