PEOPLE AROUND AUBURN Flipping Gerry Cosburn was on flapjack duty for the Auburn Lions breakfast at the Community Hall on Sunday morning. The next big event for the Lions is the hamlet’s yard sale on May 3. (Vicky Bremner) Good luck wishes to John Verwey and his partner Anita Little, Audrey Patterson, Ray Pigg and his partner Denise Caza, Elaine Fraser and her partner Andy Lubbers who will be attending Darts Ontario Provincial Championships this coming weekend. Happy 50th wedding anniversary to Laura May and Bud Chamney. Open house celebrations will be held next Saturday. Happy anniversary to Doug and Cathy Fisher, Arva and Randy Machan and Jim and Jane Giousher. The Lions’ breakfast was another success with 261 people in attendance. The proceeds will go to community betterment. Condolences to Lois Haines on the passing of a long-time family friend. The 150th celebration committee is looking for donations for a live and silent auction. The date, time and location of the auction will be announced at a later date. The Auburn Lions meet Wednesday, April 16 at 7:15 p.m. The Auburn Women’s Institute meeting for April 17 has been changed to April 22. Thursday’s coffee club had 14 K Penfound hosts Walkerburn Club Nine Walkerbum Club members met at the home of Vera Penfound for their April meeting The meeting opened with two readings, Attitude and Lipstick, by Mrs. Penfound followed by Tapestry of Spring by Ethel Ball. Eileen McClinchey read the minutes of the last meeting and the roll call was answered by your favourite dessert. Bernice Norman gave the treasurer’s report. Mrs. Ball read an invitation to the quilt donors to the sneak preview of the Quilt 2003 in Stratford. Ila Cunningham demonstrated how to make nine quilt blocks for the quilt the club is making. Several blocks were handed out to members, to be sewn together. Once again the club decided to hold a community picnic this year. It is to be held on June 22 at the Auburn ball diamond. The rain date is June 29. All club members and past members and all members of the community are invited. It is hoped we will have a good turnout from the community. Watch for more details in the next couple of of months. Mrs. McClinchey’s daughters, Karen Taylor and Joy McClinchey are having copies made of the club’s cookbook, made in 1968. Anyone who would like copies of this cookbook, are to let them or a club member know. A percentage of the proceeds from each book sold will people in attendance. Four of them went back to Bill Robinson’s and saw how they bottled maple syrup and get it ready for ship­ ping. go to the Walkerbum Club. There are a lot of good recipes in this book. The club’s albums were passed around for the members to look at. One member commented on the fact that at the 1930 reunion of the number nine school, the ladies were having a tug-of-war in their long dresses, and now news is sent in by email. How times have changed. The next meeting will be on May 5 at the home of Mrs. Cunningham. There is to be a plant sale. Mrs. Ball closed the meeting with several readings, Easter, The Traditions of Easter and Patience. Mrs. McClinchey said Grace and chocolate cake and ice cream were served by Betty Archambault and the hostess.
