Walkerburn Club
Nine Walkerbum Club members
met at the home of Vera Penfound
for their April meeting
The meeting opened with two
readings, Attitude and Lipstick, by
Mrs. Penfound followed by Tapestry
of Spring by Ethel Ball.
Eileen McClinchey read the
minutes of the last meeting and the
roll call was answered by your
favourite dessert.
Bernice Norman gave the
treasurer’s report. Mrs. Ball read an
invitation to the quilt donors to the
sneak preview of the Quilt 2003 in
Stratford.
Ila Cunningham demonstrated
how to make nine quilt blocks for
the quilt the club is making. Several
blocks were handed out to members,
to be sewn together.
Once again the club decided to
hold a community picnic this year. It
is to be held on June 22 at the
Auburn ball diamond. The rain date
is June 29. All club members and
past members and all members of
the community are invited. It is
hoped we will have a good turnout
from the community. Watch for
more details in the next couple of of
months.
Mrs. McClinchey’s daughters,
Karen Taylor and Joy McClinchey
are having copies made of the club’s
cookbook, made in 1968. Anyone
who would like copies of this
cookbook, are to let them or a club
member know. A percentage of the
proceeds from each book sold will

go to the Walkerbum Club. There
are a lot of good recipes in this book.
The club’s albums were passed
around for the members to look at.
One member commented on the fact
that at the 1930 reunion of the
number nine school, the ladies were
having a tug-of-war in their long
dresses, and now news is sent in by
email. How times have changed.
The next meeting will be on May
5 at the home of Mrs. Cunningham.
There is to be a plant sale.
Mrs. Ball closed the meeting with
several readings, Easter, The
Traditions of Easter and Patience.
Mrs. McClinchey said Grace and
chocolate cake and ice cream were
served by Betty Archambault and
the hostess.
Everyone enjoyed a social half
hour in the company in their friends
and neighbours.
