The Majestic Women’s Institute
met in the Brussels Library on
Wednesday, April 9 at 12:30 p.m. A
potluck dinner was enjoyed by 15
members and four guests.
Following the opening Linda Wall
from the Wingham Cancer Clinic
arrived to pick up the 42 cancer
patient hats made by the Institute
members. She gave a short
informative talk, stating that there
are 18 different drugs used to fight
cancer. A patient has to see an
oncologist at the London Cancer
Centre first, then they can get
treatments at a satellite centre, such
as Wingham, if necessary.
Kitchener is constructing a
building now for cancer patients.
Owen Sound Cancer Centre is
presently taking the. overload of
patients.
The treatment for children with
cancer is different and they must go
to London or Owen Sound for
treatment.
A letter was read regarding
erecdng a sign for Brussels’ coming

Yet again, registration numbers are
down for Brussels Minor Soccer.
At the recent meeting the executive
was told that as there are only seven
players for the U-17 there may not be
a team. Some players from U-6 may
need to be moved up to U-7 so there
can be enough players for a team in
that age group as well. There is only
one team in each of the U-15, U-13,
U-ll and U-9 squads.
There are 29 players in the U-6
group and 22 for kiddie kickers. As
the latter number is too low for two
teams, they may forego a kiddie
kicker team this year and combine
the players to make four U-6 teams.
The registation fees totalled
$6,100. The bank balance sits at just
over $9,000.
For expenses, the Huron East levy
is $10 for each child registered.
There will be tournament, trophy and
referee fees as well as insurance in
the aijiount of $8.95 for each child.
The executive includes: president,
Ken Warwick; treasurers, Tammy
King, Kathy Sebastian; secretary,
Jacquie Waechter; registrar, Pauleen
Kerkhof; coach co-ordinator, John
Peeler; referee-in-chief, Abi Corbett;
equipment co-ordinator, Murray
Bone; uniform co-ordinator, Rose
Kellington; directors, Donna Prior,
Ros Schlosser, Sherri Oliver.
It was decided that each team
coach would receive a $20
honorarium and a team picture if
their child is not playing on the team
coached.
Executive members will also
receive in honorarium in the amount
of their eldest child’s registration fee.
It was decided there would be no
year-end banquet. A decision will be
made at a later date as to how to
celebrate the end of the season.
Trophies are on display at Stroop’s
Meat Market. The business has
agreed to post soccer information.
The next meeting is tonight, April

Well we’re smack dab in the
middle of Holy Week. The
ministerial noon hour Lenten
Services have been well attended.
This is a nice tradition we have in
Brussels, listening to thoughts of
this very special time, then enjoying
lunch with friends as part of the
shared hour. Thanks for the
organizing, Brussels and area
ministers.
The Maitland Valley Foundation
held its annual April party on Friday

actively not so silent. All combined
for a very pleasant evening.
This organization keeps tabs on
the watershed of our area and all the
interferences to it. The Wawanosh
Nature Centre is their most obvious
endeavour but they also do other
very timely work. Education and
information for the public of the
importance of Mother Nature in the
working of our lives is their work.
This April evening is one way
that the public can support their
good work and have done so for the
last 15 years. A call to the Maitland
Valley Office in Wroxeter will get
you details if you wish to help more.
Audrey Cardiff reports that the
spring fling on Saturday was fun
and a success. The proceeds from
this party will be used to replace the
equipment at the community centre
as needed. Tables, chairs, kitchen
utensils and the many other items
needed to have a good party are on
the list of uses for the money
gained.
Thanks to Jason at Knechtel’s for
the donation of the bread for the
lunch.
Once again thanks to the
community support for our
community centre.
Happy Easter to you I
Bye now, Betty G.W.
