United Church hosts
Gospel Songfest

United Church on Sunday, April 6
were greeted with muffins, coffee

Helen Lee.
Rev. Nelson’s message was Mount

Exodus 32: 1, 15-24 is the
recounting of Moses coming down
from the mountain with the stone
tablets on which were written the 10
commandments. He was distressed
on his return to find the Israelites
worshipping idols because they had
so little faith in Moses’s return and
in God.
Next Sunday, Palm Sunday, the
congregation will observe the
sacrament of communion.
Senior choir practice will begin at
10 a.m. on April 13. The men’s choir
will practise at 7 p.m. on April
11.
The community is invited to the
annual Gospel Songfest at the
church at 7:30 p.m. on April 13. Men
of Londesboro United will sing that
evening as will Bob Heywood, Zack
Neil, the gospel group, Oracle and
the Romijn family.

April 14 meeting of Auburn UCW at
8 p.m. Susan Potter, the new director
of Camp Menesetung will be the
guest speaker. The meeting will take
the form of a kitchen shower for the
camp.

LONDESBORO
Tolerance, showing respect for
people’s differences, is the virtue
being worked on by everyone at
Hullett Central Public School this
week of April 7-11. Martin Luther
King Jr. said “We may have come
here on different ships, but we’re all
in the same boat.”
I have a question for those tired of
the winter. How are you enjoying
the spring? There is only one word
for the weather of the past week.
YUK! The March lion is certainly
taking his time to leave us!
Nominated for 13 Academy
Awards and winner of six at the
recent awards night, the movie
Chicago lives up to its hype. It was
certainly worth the trip out in the ice
storm.
The movie is the screen version of
the Broadway musical of the same
name. There is enough story
narrative woven around the musical
numbers to keep the attention of all
the audience. The choreography of
the musical numbers is amazing.
The vaudeville number of the
“mouthpiece and dummy” is
particularly well done.
As this flick was shot in Toronto,
you’ll spot some of those
actors/actresses you’ve seen on 1’V
for years in minor roles. What I
wasn’t prepared for was the
appearance of Canadian Colm Feore
as the district attorney.
You’ll remember him from Les
Miserables, the television lead in
Trudeau and last year’s hit at
Stratford, Professor Higgins in My
F(iir Lady.
