Building Custodian
The Huron County Housing Corporation is seeking a permanent part-
time Building Custodian to work 20 hours per week in the Town of
Wingham.'"
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintenance of a 28 unit
two storey walk-up apartment building and a 9 unit single level
apartment building.
The duties of this position include but are not limited to cleaning of all
common areas, preparation of apartments for new tenants, garbage and
recycling removal, general grounds work, performance of minor
electrical, plumbing, painting and other maintenance tasks, maintenance
of fire log books and preparation of reports to supervisor.
Qualifications
• Secondary Schoeff Diploma
• Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing
• Ability to deal tactfully with tena its and members of the public
• Physical ability to work in extreme temperatures and perform
manual tasks
• Good knowledge of cleaning procedures, general maintenance repairs
and experience in handling building and grounds keeping equipment
• Valid driver’s license

Planner (1 year contract)
The Planner is responsible for providing professional planning and
community economic development services and programs for the County
and its member municipalities.
The Planner is responsible for research, analysis, problem solving, the
evaluation and development of policy and implementation, report
writing, public participation programs, mapping services, agency
relations, facilitation and mediation, and professional evidence at
tribunals and hearings.
This position is a 1 year contract with opportunities for renewal
depending on budget and performance appraisal.
Qualifications
• A University degree in planning, geography, community development
or related discipline, preferably at the graduate level, or equivalent
knowledge and experience;
• Eligible for full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners
and eligible Registered Professional Planner in the Province of
Ontario
• Knowledge/experience in rural and agricultural areas;
• Proven ability to contribute effectively in a dynamic team
environment;
• Strong skills in communication, time management, organization,
computer literacy, and problem solving;
• Knowledge of municipal and county responsibilities and functions;
• Valid Ontario driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.
In today’s world, it is critical that every municipality be prepared for
potential disasters. These can include anything from a spring flood,
tornado, chemical spill, power failure, a virus, an ice storm, or nuclear
accident. The County of Huron’s Emergency Plan is up to date and the
Emergency Control Group is in place however, the County of Huron
requires an Emergency Management Coordinator to address increasing
public safety risks and to meet requirements of the provincial Emergency
Readiness Act.
The successful candidate reporting to the Huron County Health Unit
Manager will attend training sessions as required; chair the County
Emergency Management Committee; update the Emergency Plan;
provide expertise and guidance to the County and lower-tier
municipalities in all areas of Emergency Management; identify financial
and resource requirements and prepare an annual program budget; meet
regularly with provincial and federal Emergency Management officials;
provide training for County staff; co-ordinate mock disaster exercises;
maintain the County operation centre; and prepare reports for County
Council.
This position requires an effective communicator; who can organize work
and exercise initiative and independent judgment; has the ability to work
in a team setting; ability to establish and maintain good relations with
the public and staff; and has advanced computer skills to oversee the
development and maintenance of a website.
Qualifications
• A degree in Municipal Planning or Business Administration or the
equivalent in experience
• A minimum of two years experience in planning or implementing
emergency services or public safety programs.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills
and demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks.
• Familiarity with police, fire and ambulance response protocols
including Incident Command System, tiered medical response, fire
department structure and terminology.
• Thorough understanding of emergency preparedness program
(prevention/mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery) including
the operation of an Emergency Operations Centre.
• Awareness of industry standards relating to hazardous materials
response and related NFPA guidelines. ' -
• Can develop and provide training and presentations and ability to
speak effectively in public.
• Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
