Alan Palmer of RR2, Bluevale passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2003 at Wingham and District Hospital. Bom in Pickering on July 8, 1931, Alan was in his 72nd year. Alan joined the RCMP in 1951, and was stationed in Halifax after his training. His career brought him to Springhill mining town (he was there for the mining disaster called “BUMP”) and then on to Sweetharbour for two years. While in Sweetharbour, Alan joined the local Lions Club, taught swimming and was active with youth groups. He then transferred to Glace Bay, Cape Breton and after one year of general police duties was transferred to the liquor squad (chasing bootleg­ gers). In 1956, he married Beverley Lane and their first son Alan was born in 1957. Alan then transferred to Shelburne, Nova Scotia in 1959 as corporal in charge of the RCMP detachment there. While there Alan and Bev’s second child Karen was bom in 1960 and their second son Craig was bom in 1963. Transfers brought Alan to Inverness, Cape Breton in 1964 and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in 1967, all the while being involved with his sons through hockey. In 1975, Alan was commissioned and moved back home to Toronto, where he was an officer involved in the Criminal Investigations Bureau, and later as a member of CSIS at the Iranian desk, taking great interest in the present-day events. Alan retired from the RCMP in 1986 and moved to Brussels with his wife Bev in 1988. Alan then became head of campus security at MacMaster University for four years and retired “again” in 1993 for coun­ try living to enjoy his full retirement on his “farm”. Alan will be sadly missed by his wife Beverley and children Alan Palmer and his wife Lori of Calgary, Karen Wolf of Toronto and Craig Palmer and his wife Sachiko of Calgary. He was the dear brother of Pat Hunt of Kearney. He was also loved by his grandchildren Jillian, Veronika, Rachel and Justin. Alan was predeceased by his brother Ronald and sister Nancy Bohdan. Cremation has taken place. Friends were received by the fam­ ily from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels. The funeral service will be conducted from St. John’s Anglican Church, Brussels, on Wednesday, April 2 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Tom Wilson and Canon Ron Davidson officiating. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice. WINNIE VINCENT Winnie Vincent (formerly Smith and nee Allen) of Blyth and former­ ly of Belgrave passed away at Seaforth Manor on Thursday, March 27, 2003. She was in her 101st year. She was the wife of the late Albert Vincent, who predeceased her in 1974 and her late first husband Thomas Smith, who passed away in 1962. She was the loving mother of Amy McCrea and her husband Ralph of Blyth, and Irene Lamont and her husband Jim of Belgrave. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Douglas McCrea, Dale Lamont, Maureen Montgomery, Donelda Cottrill, Dwight Lamont, the late Danny Lamont, and the late David Lamont and by her six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Vincent was also prede­ ceased by her sisters Irene and Doris, and her brothers Charlie and Jack. Friends were received at the Blyth Visitation Centre of Beattie- Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd., 407 Queen St., Blyth on Sunday from 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. where a funeral service took place on Monday, March 31 at 2 p.m. Rev. Dr. Eugen Bannerman officiated. LESLIE EARNEST DALE Mr. Leslie Earnest Dale of Blyth passed away peacefully at his resi­ dence, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, March 30, 2003. He was in his 71st year. Mr. Dale was the beloved husband of Shirley Dale. He was the loving father of Susan and Barry Bromley of Blyth, Tresa Bromley of Elmwood, Gord and Cathy Dale of Whitechurch, Debbie and Stephen Cook of Blyth, and Ernie Dale of Blyth. He was the cherished grand­ father of 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was the dear brother and brother-in-law of Helen Storey, Lome and Geraldine Dale, Milton and Helen Dale, and Betty Dale. Mr. Dale was predeceased by his parents, his brother Lloyd Dale, his grandson James Leslie Cook, and brother-in-law Harold Storey. At Les’s request there was no vis­ itation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Crohns and Colitis Foundation would be greatly appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
