Tasty treats
There was more than just soup and sandwiches for
residents and guests at the Huronlea luncheon last week
as a wide selection of goodies tempted the palates, (jantce

I’m really going to miss the sweet
face of the survivors in the weeks to
come. Each week the pride of their
mothers was at our eye level for us
to get to know. Thanks to all the
good sports who helped pass the
winter, letting us into your heads,
probably more than we wanted.
Each one is to be thanked for the
mental diversion you’ve given and
for the most part it’s made us really
glad we live with who we do.
Thanks again to all the survivors for
the 2003 game.
Well darn, we’re back
discussing the white stuff in
weather department. The snow
come and gone all week, just enough
of it to keep the winter coat and mitts
out and at the ready. The one good
thing about it, is that the
mounds of the winter white
disappeared very smoothly
limited flooding in our area,
good news.
The sound of relaxing hockey
families is increasing as they come
to realize that the entire weekend is
available. Their time does not have
to be spent at the various arenas that
has become habit since November.
So if you see them looking at little
lost invite them over, reminding
them just to come, and to leave the
hockey bags at home.

The weather of spring is
conducive to gathering and as the
paper tells, you have many choices
in music, drama and food to choose
from in the coming weeks. So enjoy
the talents, the choices and the fun
available to you. Participate.
Again this week my blood did a
slow boil. Truthfully it was a rapid
reaction as I was made aware of the
personal nature gossip can take. Two
very different stories of people
“passing” on wee tidbits that caused
great anxiety in two different homes.
Words are a strong weapon and
innocence is not acceptable when
your words hurt or offend another.
Gossip is a waste of time and does
no good.
It’s too bad that we can’t easily
follow the words, returning them on
a plate to the person who said them
and let them see and hear what their
idle tongue did to the life of another.
Yes, I’m still angry about these
specific bits of gossip, and gossip in
general.
So use the time of Lent to be very
aware of the things that escape your
tongue, for maybe some day
someone will return them to you, in
all nastiness. Concern for folks,
good news and truth are just fine; but
please, please use your brain to think
of the consequences of your words,
just before you put your tongue in
gear.
Give your words and actions a
little more thought this week.
Bye now, Betty G. W.

Seili spoke on plans that will see
the old clerk’s office lot turned into a
landscaped park. The Brussels
Business Group is hoping for
volunteer participation from
individuals or organizations within
the community for maintenance on
new park.
The next meeting will be held May
26 at 7:30 p.m. Members will
participate in a plant sale and the
hostesses scheduled are Brenda
Perrie, Jeanne Ireland and Isabel
Gibson.
March 25’s dreary rain didn’t
dampen spirits at the Brussels
Horticultural Society’s March
meeting. The group of men and
women were treated to gifts and
guest speakers. This was followed
by a tea.
Debbie Campbell, local artisan
and owner of Country Magic,
demonstrated for the members how both the gazebo landscaping and the
to make a grapevine tree. Campbell
created a rustic, Christmas tree
shaped decoration that can be used
year round in the home or garden.
She also displayed some cedar
reindeer, angels and trellises as well
as birdfeeders.
The Brussels Business Group was
represented by Debbie Seili, the
second speaker of the evening. She
was asked to speak to the society on
ways the two groups could work
together to beautify Brussels.
As profits from the home tour
were intended to be used for this
purpose, the Brussels Business
Group has purchased hanging
baskets of cascading flowers for
Turnberry Street along with more
brackets.
Members brainstormed ways to
get support from the municipality to
hire a student or local community
member to water the baskets for the
season.
