According to Director of Education Lome Rachlis, the sanctions were used as a bargaining tactic at that time. The Avon Maitland District School Board sent a letter home with secondary school students Monday explaining the changes undertaken by the OSSTF, District 8. As of Monday, job sanctions state that OSSTF members will not attend any board-sponsored meetings or events and will not distribute board- related materials not directly related Students’ marks and absences were to be reported, but no comments included. Teachers would not attend meetings unless held during regular classroom hours. Any staff absences due to illness or other circumstances were to be reported to the school principal or vice-principal rather than the board’s automated system which arranges for a supply teacher. The actions have not yet had an impact on extra curricular activities or in-class instruction. Rachlis said he is still hopeful that an agreement can be reached and further negotiations are scheduled for mid-April. INVENTORS - PRODUCT IDEAS WANTED! FREE INFOR MATION PACKAGE. Members have been told not to apply for or accept any teaching position or position of responsibility. They will also not accept “teacher-in charge” duties when the principal or vice-principal is away. April marks will be sent to the office on paper, with no comments, rather than entered in the school’s computer systems. The original list said the teachers would report to classes 15 minutes prior to the start time and leave 15 minutes after the conclusion of classes unless they had volunteered for extracurricular activities. Youths involved in Huron OPP on March 22 between 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. received four complaints of damage done in the Blyth area. Someone using a paint gun fired paint balls at property and vehicles between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. that night. The first victim reported that four screens on the family home had been damaged when the paint balls went through the screens before striking the house windows. The damage in this case was slight. The second time the vandals again started with screens and windows, but this time vehicles in the driveway were also shot. The cars were washed but pink residue was left on them which means paint jobs will be required. In the third report the vandals covered one side of a house. The victims had some metal siding covered in paint marks but also another section of board and batten was painted-marked. The victim also had two vehicles dantaged in the paint ball damage driveway with paint marks left that couldn’t be removed. At the last place two vehicles in the driveway were covered in paint. Officers later discovered a vehicle on the side of the road that had three paint guns inside. It had been left there after leaving the roadway. The investigating officers have three male suspects between 17 years of age and 19 years of age that will be interviewed in the next few days. Check out the classifieds
