Brussels Livestock report
Fed steer, heifer prices up $2, cows down $1
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending
March 21 were 2,476 head of cattle,
570 lambs and goats.
On Tuesday the fed steers and
heifers sold at prices $2 higher.
Cows traded on a market $1 lower.
On Thursday the veal traded on a
steady market with thel ambs also
selling steady but on a strong active
trade. On Friday the calves sold on a
steady market while the yearlings
sold at prices $2 higher.
There were 421 steers on offer
selling from $103 to $109 with sales
to $119.50. Allan Lewis, Ailsa
Craig, consigned one limousin steer
weighing 1,415 lbs. which sold to
Norwich Packers for $119.50. His
overall offering of twenty-five steers
averaged 1,610 lbs. selling for an
average of $103.60. Sixteen steers
consigned by Joel Martin, Paisley,
averaged 1,409 lbs. selling for an
average of $105.61 with his top
limousin steer weighing 1,270 lbs.

“It is very positive that larger
farming operations will now be
treated like the rest.”
That was the response of Neil
Vincent, president of the Huron
County Federation of Agriculture
after learning of the province’s
change in policy for hydro rates over
the weekend.
The Eves government announced
that farms using up to 250,000 kwh
would be included m the 4.3 cent
price freeze bracket given to all
users under 150,000 kwh last fall. A
rebate, retroactive to May 2002, will
