Jean and Lawrence Plaetzer did celebrate an anniversary but not their 50th as reported in last week’s paper. Apologies for any inconvenience caused by this error. Congratulations to Andy Lubbers and John Verwey for placing joint third in darts at the legion’s provincials in the doubles event in Belleville on Saturday. Jim and Grace Cartwright and Grandpa and Grandma Turner of Bayfield, are proud grandparents of Kelsy Cartwright, daughter of Wendy and Paul Cartwright of London. Kelsy placed first in Zone 9 London District Spelling Bee, which was held in the Optimist Club in London. Kelsy now advances to the South Western Ontario Competition in Waterloo. Congratulations Kelsy. Everyone in Auburn is cheering for you. Condolences to the family of Marion Haggitt. Funeral service^ were held last Saturday. She was well known to the residents of Auburn and will be sadly missed. The Auburn’s Lions Club meeting is this Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. atthe Auburn Community Hall. The Auburn District Women’s Institute meeting is Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Auburn Community Hall. Don’t forget to bring a homemade craft. The 125th logo entries must be submitted by April 11 and the recipes for cookbook before April 1. The occasion was the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary. (Vicky Bremner photo) A golden anniversary was celebrated this past Saturday with an open house at the Belgrave arena. On March 18, 1953, the former Joan C. Hiseler of Wingham and W. Thomas Armstrong of West Wawanosh Twp. were married in a ceremony at the bride’s home. Officiating at the ceremony was Dr. W.A. Beecroft. The bride, a daughter of Lawrence and Marion (McLeod) Hiseler was attended by Marjorie (Hobden) Haselgrove. Stan Hiseler stood up with the groom. The groom was the son of Mark A. and Ellen (Thompson) Armstrong. “There was no snow,” said Joan, “and the day was mild enough to have us touted around town in the back of my Dad’s and brother’s pick-up truck. Maxine Seers opened the meeting and the minutes of the last meeting were read. Maxine introduced the guest speaker Rose Horn from Seven Sisters in Blyth. She described the achievement of her lifetime dream in owning and operating a store along with her other sisters. The store provides a variety of crafts and allows patrons to enjoy a cup of tea surrounded by a beautiful garden. The next horticulture meeting will be May 12 when the annual plant sale will be held. at RR2, Lucknow and at St. Augustine (RR2, Auburn). Tom worked as a farmer and dump truck owner and operator. Joan was a legal secretary, elementary school secretary, and eventually clerk­ treasurer of West Wawanosh. She retired in November 1995, her husband in 1999. The couple have five children: Marion (Roy Taylor), Marlene (Merv Baker), Noreen Walker, Terry (Sheila) and Jeff. Their family has grown to include 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. They remain quite active with Tom’s retirement not actually complete as he does part-time delivery for an area business, while Joan fills her time with interests such as reading, knitting and as a member of the church choir.
