Agriculture Brussels Livestock report 743 steers cover $100 - $108 range., top $117 Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending March 14 were 2.861 head of cattle, 557 lambs and goats. On Tuesday the fed steers and heifers sold $1 to $2 lower with the heavy cattle selling under pressure. The cows traded $1 to $2 lower than last week. On Thursday the veal traded on a lower demand while the lambs sold on a strong demand with prices steady with last week’s prices. On Friday all weights and classes of Stockers sold on a steady market. There were 743 steers on offer selling from $100 to $108 with sales to $117.50. Ivan B. Weber, Paisley, consigned two limousin steers averaging 1,395 lbs. which sold to Holly Park Meat Packers for $117.75. His overall consignment of eleven steers averaged 1,491 lbs. selling for an average of $105.36. One limousin steer consigned by Luke Gingerich, Chesley, weighed 1,400 lbs. which sold to Norwich Packers for $116.50. His overall consignment of twelve steers averaged 1.444 lbs. selling for an average of $109.72. Merkley Farms, Wroxeter, consigned five limousin steers averaging 1,270 lbs. selling for an average of $111.99 with their top two limousin steers averaging 1,280 lbs. selling to Norwich Packers for $115. One red wf steer consigned by Amos B. Weber, Wroxeter, weighed 1,390 lbs. which sold for $113. Al Rerming, Exeter, consigned forty steers averaging 1,441 lbs. selling for an average of $107.09 with his top limousin steer weighing 1,445 lbs. selling to Norwich Packers for $114.50. One blonde steer consigned by Schmidt Brook Farms, Woodstock, weighed 1,510 lbs. selling to Highland Meat Packers for $116.50. Their overall consignment of eleven steers averaged 1,510 lbs. selling for an average of $106.01. John Giousher, Wingham, consigned five steers averaging 1,522 lbs. selling for an average of $105.24 with his top limousin steer weighing 1,475 lbs. selling to Dominion Meats for $110.50. One limousin steer consigned by John Elliott, Ripley, weighed 1,270 Machinery Club watches movies on farm safety, tractor parts By Andy Pethick On Monday, March 3, the 4-H Machinery Club held its fourth meeting at Huron Tractor in Exeter. Members watched a movie on safety. After the movie, they went downstairs where they talked about tractors and looked at different parts of the tractors. They then went back upstairs to watch a second movie on tractor maintenance. After a brief discussion on the movies and tractor parts, Wayne and Rick were thanked for their information and knowledge. His overall consignment of three heifers averaged 1,367 lbs. selling for an average of $107.76. Twelve heifers consigned by Bruce Dale, Centralia, averaged 1,340 lbs. selling for an average of $107.52 with his top charolais heifer weighing 1,410 lbs. selling to Norwich Packers for $112. His overall offering of twelve heifers averaged 1,275 lbs. selling for an average price of $106.71. Fourteen heifers consigned by Muxlea Farms, Woodstock, averaged 1,364 lbs. selling for an average of $106.01 with their top limousin heifer weighing 1,285 lbs. selling for $110.25. His overall consignment of nineteen heifers averaged 1,157 lbs. selling for an average price of $105.83. Sixteen gold and charolais heifers consigned by Edwin Bearinger, Mount Forest, averaged 1,246 lbs. selling for an average of $104.52 with sales up to $111. There were 316 cows on offer. DI and D2 cows sold $54 to $64 with sales to $77; D3, $50 to $54; D4, $40 to $50. Stewart Knechtel, Gadshill, consigned one limousin cow weighing 1,700 lbs. which sold to Aylmer Meat Packers for $77. His overall consignment of three beef cows averaged 1,400 lbs. and sold for an average of $68.69. One limousin cow consigned by Grey Luyten and Sandra Dodd, Wingham, weighed 1,325 lbs. selling to Moyer Packing Co. for $76. Ed Reinhart, Mildmay, consigned one red wf cow weighing 1,290 lbs. which sold to Moyer Packing co. for $74.50. There were 12 bulls on offer selling from $60 to $78.50 with sales to $84. Glen Haney, Seaforth, consigned one charolais bull weighing 1,970 lbs. which was purchased by Dominion Meats for $84. One limousin'bull consigned by Joe J. Stutzman, Chesley, weighed 1,545 lbs. selling to Dominion Meats for $83.50. There were 127 head of veal on offer. Beef sold $94 to $102.50; Holstein, $75 to $80 with sales to $85; Plain Holstein, $60 to $70. Bob Franklin, Meaford, consigned one black veal steer weighing 710 lbs. which sold for $104.50. One gold veal heifer consigned by John Martin, Lucknow, weighed 715 lbs. selling to J.J. Meats for $102. His overall offering of four beef veal calves averaged 751 lbs. for an average of $99.24.
