The lucky couple who took first place was Lloyd and Lillian Appleby with 70 points. Close behind with 67 points were John Lyons and Norm McClinchey. Third place winners were Frank and Kay Baer with 65 points. The lucky lone hand winners were Ken Preszcator and Beatrice Dawe. Euchre is every two weeks at Walton Hall. PEOPLE AROUND WALTON Our condolences to the Rogerson family on the passing of Isabel Rogerson. Her local family includes Ken and Marg Rogerson and Glenn and Marg McClure. She also has two out-of-the-area daughters, Helen and Joan. The village of Walton is plus one this week with the arrival of Matthew Heath Campbell. He is the new son of Jim and Marcie Campbell and big sister Meagan says “he’s pretty.” Congratulations to the Campbells. There’s activity at the former Shortreed house as new owner Rob Proctor is busy doing some renovating. We welcome him. Brandon McGavin is home. He went to London hospital on Wednesday and now sports a full- length cast on his broken leg. He didn’t require surgery after all but will have a long recovery. He’s looking forward to getting to school in his wheelchair, and seeing his friends again. There was a shower held for bride- to-be Amy Shortreed at the home of Murray and Maxine Houston. Jillian Houston and about a dozen friends gathered to enjoy supper and present Amy with some lovely gifts. They enjoyed catching up with one another and had a social evening enjoying the hot tub and staying over. The McGavin families enjoyed Sunday down at Bryan and Heather Kelso’s. They started the day by attending church at Granton United Church to witness the baptism of Bryan and Heather’s youngest son Jared. They had lunch at the Kelso home, then went family skating at the Kirkton skating centre. Wilbees greet at Duffs United service The congregation of Duff’s United Church Sunday, was greeted by Keith and Gloria Wilbee. The choir sang the anthem Jesus Acorns talk food The Walton Little School Acorn Class (senior preschool) is continuing its project about food. That is keeping them busy in the Acorn Room. They made Granny’s Granola and Fruit Kabobs. On Thursday, they had a visit from Trina Merkel, a dental hygienist. She showed them how to properly brush their teeth. She gave them toothbrushes, pins, colouring pages and reward charts with stickers. They had a great time. The Star Class or junior preschool theme is Shoot for the Moon and you will land among the stars. They are talking about shapes and colours, the colour red and the letter S. They have been practising writing the letter S and they now have a spaceship centre in the dramatic play area. The children are very excited about their new journals they are doing with their two new characters' named Creative Cat and Daring Dog. The Stars also had a visit with the dental hygienist and had a great time. meeting in Kingston. He replaces Neil McGavin who retired from the position this past year. Returning from a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was the Seaforth and District All Girls Marching Band. Enjoying the holiday were Valerie and Krista Shortreed, Wendy Boyd, and Sandra and Leslie Pepper. They performed at Broadway at the Beach as well as prior to the Legends in concert performance. They went on an historical walking tour of the city of Charleston and the market. The group also performed at the Tanger Outlet Shopping Center. Other Ontario vacationers attended and greeted the members. The Walton Women’s Institute is meeting today Wednesday, March 19 at the home of Leona McDonald at 1:30 p.m. for all members to attend. Doug and Marjory Fraser were visited by daughter Dianne Blake for the day on Saturday. They enjoyed lunch out and a nice drive on such a beautiful day. The community has been saddened by the passing of long-time Walton friend Ken Fischer. Our condolences to his wife Doris and family members. Returning from a trip to Cancun Mexico was Robbie McClure. He was part of a group of friends who travelled to the sunny destination and had a great time. The Time for the Young at Heart was on the importance of names. Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky explained how all children of God are named Christians. Kevin Wilbee read the scripture. Rev. Joan’s reflection was Sticks and Stones and how name calling cannot hurt us. God does not define us so why do we call people names and define them, she said. Opportunities outside our church walls include a sign language Kathleen Cuthill turns 90 90 years young Kathleen Cuthill of the Highland Apartments in Brussels passed a milestone March 18 celebrating her 90th birthday. In 1997 Mrs. Cuthill returned to the area taking up residence at her present home. She is a member of Northside United Church and has been a member of the choir there. She has belonged to the Rebekah Lodge in Seaforth. Her love of music was enjoyed through piano playing, which was unfortunately curtailed when her eyesight failed. Besides enjoying general good health, Mrs. Cuthill is surrounded by a growing family, including four grandsons, Gord, Ross, Neil and Dpug, who all live nearby. She also has 10 great-grandchildren. Her family feted her with a special birthday meal on Sunday at the family farm. Her daughter is a regular entertainer at Huronlea and on Tuesday, Mrs. Cuthill’s sister Clara Dale, her niece Marie Flynn and brother Orville and his wife Lila Storey, were present to take part. That evening a cake and ice-cream party was enjoyed by the family and the Highland Apartment residents. The First Meeting of the SOUTH CENTRAL HURON 4H DAIRY CLUB will be held Wednesday March 26, 2003 7:30 p.m. CHSS cafeteria, Clinton. Ages 10 to 21 years as of January 1, 2003 welcome.
