FROM LONDESBORO
Baptism
at
United
Church
Along with regular congregants at
Londesboro United Church on
Sunday morning were a number of
guests, there to show their love and
support for two new members of
God’s family. Jared Grant, son of
Grant and Sandy Bergsma, and
Malcolm Douglas, son of Al Squires
and Tammy Vincent, were welcomed
into the church through baptism.
Rev. Nelson told the boys and girls
about a young boy, named Peter,
who lived in the British West Indies.
Following Peter’s example, the
children of the village gathered
rocks for a new church and placed
them in a pile on the proposed, site.
These rocks brought a renewal of
efforts by the adults to build the
church. A small boy’s determination
resulted in St. Peter’s Church. Peter
means rock, a fitting name for the
church.
The morning’s" responsive psalm
was Psalm 23. Genesis 22: 1-14 is
the story of Abraham’s willingness
to offer his son, Isaac, as a sacrifice
to God. At the last moment, God
provided a ram for the altar. The
large crowd which gathered to hear
Jesus teach was provided food by
Jesus from a few loaves and fishes.
This miracle is recorded in Matthew
I4: 13-21.
Abraham climbed a mountain with
Isaac to build an altar. Many of life’s
challenges seem like mountains to
us. Just as God provided a sacrifice
for Abraham, He equips us to face
our mountains. He tries to show that
He can do much with the small
talents and gifts He has given us. In
the face of difficulties, God wants us
to place our faith/life in His hands.
He will provide.
God’s grace will be adequate to
cope with life.
John and Barb Jewitt favoured
churchgoers with a duet,
Whispering Hope.
The senior choir will practice at 10
a.m. next Sunday morning.
Items for the spring newsletter
need to be submitted to Carl
Stevenson or the church office by
March 31.

PEOPLE AROUND
LONDESBORO
As the children head back to
classes this week for the spring term,
the virtue getting emphasis is
excellence. Words by Abraham
Lincoln support the virtue “I do the
best I know how, the very best I can,
and I mean to keep doing so until the
end.”
Hullett Minor Ball registration will
be held at the school on Thursday,
March 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. and
Saturday, March 22 from 10 a.m. to 1
p.m. Karen Dolmage is the contact.
It must have been the luck o’ the
Irish which brought us the lovely
spring temperatures these last few'
days. One can almost see and hear the
snow melting under the blue skies. A
couple of other spring sounds have
also returned, the cawing of crows
and the buzzing of flies in the
windows.
On Sunday afternoon I caught sight
of a robin. It’s amazing how the
sunshine lifts the spirit.

Happy Gang hosts card parties
Cards were shuffled many times in
Londesboro last week at two card
parties sponsored by the Happy
Gang Seniors.
On March 12 the group played
host for a euchre party to benefit the
Clinton Public Hospital at the
Londesboro Community Hall. A
wonderful turnout of players
resulted in 21 tables in play that
afternoon.
The top lady player at the end of
the tournament was Loma Ellis. Don
Buchanan was declared the top male
player.
Vera Hesselwood and Ruth
Pickard shared the distinction of
having the most lone hands.
A large number of prizes was
taken home that day thanks to the
generosity of club members.
Winners of the four major door
prizes are as follows: large fruit
basket, Mrs. Don Colquhoun;
assortment of jams, Biil Craig; two
breakfasts, Nellie Brock’ Breakfast
at the Comer Cafe, Mary East.
A cheque for $600 will be donated
to Clinton Public Hospital from an
afternoon of enjoyment and
fellowship.
The Happy Gang Seniors regular
monthly card party was held on
Friday evening, March 14 at the
Londesboro Community Hall with
17 and a half tables in play.
Lois Cunningham and Marie Park
were the evening’s high couple with
81 points. With 78 points for their
efforts, Charlie and Millie Johnston
placed second followed closely for
third with 77 points by Wayne and
Marie Millian. Raymond and Lois
Haggitt had the most lone hands
with six.
The share-the-wealth winners for
March were Willis Bromley, Len
Archambault and Kay Hesselwood.
April 11 has been booked for the
seniors next euchre card party.
