Bulldogs head to OMHA finals
The Blyth Midget Bulldogs have
moved into the OMHA finals. The
Dogs eliminated Walpole Island last
Thursday night with a 1-0 victory to
sweep the series 3-0.
Darren Austin scored late in the
first period with assists going to Joel
Riley and Kirk Stewart to register
the only goal of the game.
The Bulldogs again had tough
luck around the opposition net,
posting a huge advantage on shots
on net. However Dogs’ goaltender
Travis Shelton made some brilliant
saves, to preserve the victory.
The Bulldogs will now meet
Sunderland in the finals. The dates
for the series will be Saturday,
March 15 at 7 p.m. in Sunderland
with game two in Blyth Sunday,
March 16 at 3 p.m.
Ennismore defeats Juveniles
Wingham McFadden’s Maytag
Juveniles were eliminated from the
OMHA playdowns this past
weekend.
The team travelled to Ennismore
on Saturday for the 7 p.m. contest
on Saturday afternoon and got
off to a good start by getting an early
goal from Devin Moffatt. Kent
Readman earned an assist on the
play.
Injury and penalty problems
started to hobble the team late in the
first. Ennismore capitalized and took
a 3-1 lead into the second period.
Ennismore out-scored Wingham
2-1 in the second period to take a 5-
2 lead into the third. Kevin Hopf
scored the Wingham goal with
help from Readman and Shawn
Henry.
Ennismore scored twice in the
third to take a .7-2 lead and Henry
made it 7-3 with assists going to
Garret Skinn and Moffat. This was
as close as Wingham would get as
Ennismore skated away with 7-3
win and a series sweep.
Ennismore will now play Forest in
the OMHA C finals.
The team came a long way from
being down two games to none to
Lucknow in the WO A A semi-finals
to defeating Wiarton before losing to
Ennismore in the OMHA semi
finals.

PeeWees take 2
A strong opponent put the
Brussels Bantams out of OMHA
playoffs with three straight wins.
The third game of the best of five
series was played in Belmont on
March 7.
Going into the third period behind
2-0, Brussels made a terrific effort to
force another game putting great
pressure on Belmont with excellent
forechecking. Brad McKague, off a
tandem play by Matt McClinchey
and Steven Ropp scored early in the
period to close the gap to one.
Then with just under five minutes
of play remaining, McClinchey tied
it. Assists went to Cory Chapman
and Scott Phillips.
Brussels had other chances to
score but couldn’t capitalize on
them. Great saves from goalie C.J.
Ashley kept his team in the game.
Then at the 3:31 mark, a penalty
for the visitors gave Belmont a
powerplay opportunity which paid
off. As the seconds counted down,
Brussels coaches pulled the goalie in
an effort to tie, but were
disappointed by an empty-netter
goal with 10 seconds left. The final
was 4-2 for Belmont.

The Brussels PeeWees had great
success in white division round
robin play in the past week,
capturing two wins.
March 5 saw them welcome
Hensail to the rink, but the
hospitality was short-lived as
Brussels quickly took a lead they
never relinquished.
Scorers in the first frame were
Brian Burgess, Zachery Hoegy and
Jason Bowman. Earning assists were
Taylor Prior (two) and Danny
Dwyer.
Going into the second period up 3-
1, Brussels kept the pressure on with
netters by Prior (two) and Westin
McLeod. James Dillon, Burgess and
Hoegy aided the plays.
The team sealed the win in the
third, keeping Hensall to just their
two goals while adding two of their
own.
Prior and McLeod rounded out the
8-2 score with Bowman (two) and
Joel Wilkinson picking up assists.
Their winning ways continued
March 8 when Teeswater visited.
In spite of staking their opponent
to a two-goal lead in the second,
Brussels ended the frame down by
just one after a setup for Burgess by
McLeod.
After seeing Teeswater put in their
third netter, the Brussels offence
opened up, scoring four in the last
six minutes, including three in 38
seconds.
Firing off the shots were Prior,
Bowman, Burgess and Thomas
Johnston. Assists were earned by
Hoegy, Johnston and Prior.
