Brussels PeeWees win 2, lose 1 with a in the on the Iron will Though the Ethel players may have been a little short in stature, they were big in heart when they challenged some Wingham Ironmen to a hockey game during the Ethel Snowfest Saturday afternoon. (Janice Becker photo) Brussels PeeWee Locals have a loss and two wins in the White division round robin playoffs. On Feb. 24 the team visited Teeswater and were handed a 3-1 loss. Going into the second period down by one, Brussels allowed another goal by their opponents before Joel Wilkinson, off a play by Taylor Prior, lit the light for the visitors. Teeswater held the Brussels squad back in the third, then scored another of their own in the final minute of Play. It was a different story Feb. 26 when the team travelled to Ripley. Brussels took a first-period lead when Westin McLeod scored an unanswered, unassisted goal. Ripley tied it early in the second, but a Brussels onslaught gave the team a solid lead. Scoring for the visitors side were Jason Bowman with two, Brian Burgess and Zachary Hoegy. Assists went to Wilkinson, James Dillon, McLeod, Dan Dwyer, and Prior and Hoegy, each with two. The visitors closed the door on their hosts in the third, adding one more of their own. Prior bulged the twine with helpers from Burgess and Wilkinson. The second game against Ripley was March 1 at home. The visitors were shut down in this outing giving Brussels a 5-0 victory. Scoring in the first was Burgess assisted by Prior. McLeod got a hattrick seond, with Dillon assisting first goal. Prior finished the scoring third-period effort. Blyth Mites play Zurich Tykes play well in tourney goalie thwarted Matthew Ripley’s The Brussels Tykes competed in the Lucknow tournament on Saturday. In the first game the squad came up against Riply. Excellent teamwork saw the Brussels players scoring seven in the first period. Fans were on their feet rooting for the squad. Brussels McNichol attempts at scoring to earn a shutout, and a lop-sided 17-0 victory. Goals were scored by Brody TenPas, eight; Brock McLean, five; Anthony Vader, two; Mitchell Kellington and Hayden TenPas. For Vader and H. TenPas these goals were the first of the season. Taylor Higgins, Colton Hastings, Tanner Cardiff, Reece McArter and Sarah Dillon worked hard and played a treat game. Solid defence was provided by Josh Bridge, Jason Baxter and Andrew Patton. Game two was against Kincardine. This one proved to be a nail-biter. Brussels was down 4-0 in the first, but the fans cheering must have spurred the team on as they soon responded with three of their own. The team really started to work together, eventually tieing it at 5-5. Unfortunately, Kincardine scored one more before the final buzzer for a one-point victory. Patton played a great game between the pipes, blocking several shots. Goalscorers were B. TenPas with a hattrick and McLean with two. Coaching staff gives the team a hats off for the great work in two of the best games of the season. The Blyth Mites were home to Zurich on Saturday, March 1. The score was a close one at 6-5 for Blyth. Both teams played a good game. Goals for Blyth were scored by Ashley Higgins with three, Wyatt Carey with two and Ryan Plunkett with one. Assists were made by Connor Rodgers, Hunter Dale, Autumn Wightman, Dallas Coultes, Dylan Bromley, Dalton Carey, Curtis Raynard and Ron Vercruyssen. Great saves were made by goalies Curtis and Dylan. Whigham Juveniles down 2 in series The Wingham McFadden’s Maytag Juveniles find themselves down two games to none to Ennismore after play this past weekend. Ennismore came to Wingham this past weekend and the first two games of the series were played due to the distance of the two centres. On Saturday, Ennismore came out on top shutting Wingham down 3-0. In Sunday’s game Ennismore came out flying and scored just nine seconds into the game enroute to a 6-1 win. Jake Bruce scored the lone Wingham goal with help from Barry Skinn. Wingham travels to Ennismore next weekend for game three on Saturday night at 7 p.m. and game four if necessary Sunday at 7 p.m. 1 1 —1 Check out The Citizen's WEBSITE at www.northhuron.on.ca Two more wins for the Blyth' Tykes went in the books as February closed and March began. Hensail visited Feb. 22, but witnessed the Blyth offence stinking first. A goal by Braydon Whitfield early in the first put the home team ahead then Spencer Stevenson widened the gap- Assists were earned by Wesley Thompson and Whitfield. Hensall took the score to 2-1 before the buzzer, but then watched as Blyth retook the two-goal lead and held on for the win. Whitfield scored his second of the game with the help of Stevenson and Thompson. Caroline McDowell picked up a pass from Stevenson to round out the score in the 4-1 victory. It was a big win for the squad March 1 when they took on Zurich. While holding their opponent to one in each frame, Blyth popped in five in the first and four in the second. Stevenson had an outstanding game, putting the first seven Blyth goals in the net. He had help from Laura Higgins twice and from McDowell on one. Chloe Middegaai and McDowell rounded out the tally. Assists went to McDowell and Dalton Richmond. Earning a medal Blyth native Justin Peters and his Team Ontario teainmates brought home a bronze medal from the Canada Winter Games in New Erunswick.
