Though the Ethel players may have been a little short in stature, they were big in heart when
they challenged some Wingham Ironmen to a hockey game during the Ethel Snowfest
Saturday afternoon. Const. Dave Gillian of the Wingham detachment served as goalie for the
Ethel squad and Const. Lincoln Dinning, (not pictured) refereed and did the play-by-play for
the match. (Janice Becker photo)
Brussels PeeWee Locals have a
loss and two wins in the White
division round robin playoffs.
On Feb. 24 the team visited
Teeswater and were handed a 3-1
loss.
Going into the second period
down by one, Brussels allowed
another goal by their opponents
before Joel Wilkinson, off a play by
Taylor Prior, lit the light for the
visitors.
Teeswater held the Brussels squad
back in the third, then scored another
of their own in the final minute of
Play.
It was a different story Feb. 26
when the team travelled to Ripley.
Brussels took a first-period lead
when Westin McLeod scored an
unanswered, unassisted goal.
Ripley tied it early in the second,
but a Brussels onslaught gave the
team a solid lead. Scoring for the
visitors side were Jason Bowman
with two, Brian Burgess and
Zachary Hoegy. Assists went to
Wilkinson, James Dillon, McLeod,
Dan Dwyer, and Prior and Hoegy,
each with two.
The visitors closed the door on
their hosts in the third, adding one
more of their own. Prior bulged the
twine with helpers from Burgess and
Wilkinson.
The second game against Ripley
was March 1 at home. The visitors
were shut down in this outing giving
Brussels a 5-0 victory.
Scoring in the first was Burgess
assisted by Prior.
McLeod got a hattrick
seond, with Dillon assisting
first goal.
Prior finished the scoring
third-period effort.

The Brussels Tykes competed in
the Lucknow tournament on
Saturday.
In the first game the squad came
up against Riply. Excellent
teamwork saw the Brussels players
scoring seven in the first period.
Fans were on their feet rooting for
the squad.

and a lop-sided 17-0 victory.
Goals were scored by Brody
TenPas, eight; Brock McLean, five;
Anthony Vader, two; Mitchell
Kellington and Hayden TenPas. For
Vader and H. TenPas these goals
were the first of the season.
Taylor Higgins, Colton Hastings,
Tanner Cardiff, Reece McArter and
Sarah Dillon worked hard and
played a treat game.
Solid defence was provided by
Josh Bridge, Jason Baxter and
Andrew Patton.
Game two was against
Kincardine. This one proved to be a
nail-biter. Brussels was down 4-0 in
the first, but the fans cheering must
have spurred the team on as they
soon responded with three of their
own.
The team really started to work
together, eventually tieing it at 5-5.
Unfortunately, Kincardine scored
one more before the final buzzer for
a one-point victory.
Patton played a great game
between the pipes, blocking several
shots.
Goalscorers were B. TenPas with a
hattrick and McLean with two.
Coaching staff gives the team a
hats off for the great work in two of
the best games of the season.
The Blyth Mites were home to
Zurich on Saturday, March 1. The
score was a close one at 6-5 for
Blyth. Both teams played a good
game.
Goals for Blyth were scored by
Ashley Higgins with three, Wyatt
Carey with two and Ryan Plunkett
with one. Assists were made by
Connor Rodgers, Hunter Dale,
Autumn Wightman, Dallas Coultes,
Dylan Bromley, Dalton Carey,
Curtis Raynard and Ron
Vercruyssen.
Great saves were made by goalies
Curtis and Dylan.
Whigham Juveniles
down 2 in series
The Wingham McFadden’s
Maytag Juveniles find themselves
down two games to none to
Ennismore after play this past
weekend.
Ennismore came to Wingham this
past weekend and the first two
games of the series were played due
to the distance of the two centres.
On Saturday, Ennismore came out
on top shutting Wingham down 3-0.
In Sunday’s game Ennismore
came out flying and scored just nine
seconds into the game enroute to a
6-1 win. Jake Bruce scored the lone
Wingham goal with help from Barry
Skinn.
Wingham travels to Ennismore
next weekend for game three on
Saturday night at 7 p.m. and game
four if necessary Sunday at 7 p.m.

Two more wins for the Blyth'
Tykes went in the books as February
closed and March began.
Hensail visited Feb. 22, but
witnessed the Blyth offence stinking
first.
A goal by Braydon Whitfield early
in the first put the home team ahead
then Spencer Stevenson widened the
gap-
Assists were earned by Wesley
Thompson and Whitfield.
Hensall took the score to 2-1
before the buzzer, but then watched
as Blyth retook the two-goal lead
and held on for the win.
Whitfield scored his second of the
game with the help of Stevenson and
Thompson. Caroline McDowell
picked up a pass from Stevenson to
round out the score in the 4-1
victory.
It was a big win for the squad
March 1 when they took on Zurich.
While holding their opponent to
one in each frame, Blyth popped in
five in the first and four in the
second.
Stevenson had an outstanding
game, putting the first seven Blyth
goals in the net. He had help from
Laura Higgins twice and from
McDowell on one.
Chloe Middegaai and McDowell
rounded out the tally. Assists went to
McDowell and Dalton Richmond.
