Sports Waiting to strike Bantams down 2 to Belmont The Brussels Bantams are finding themselves up against a very strong opponent from Belmont in the OMHA D semi-finals. On Feb. 28 in the first game of the series, the squad travelled to Belmont and came away on the short side of a 6-2 score. The first period was dominated by the hosts who took a 3-0 lead into the second period. Belmont opened the scoring in that one to jump up by four goals, but Jordan Campbell sunk one to cancel it just minutes later. The hosts refused to let that stand, however, getting another with less than five minutes remaining in the period. Then Cory Chapman brought the game to 5-2 before the buzzer. Belmont shut down the visitor scoring in the third while managing one more of their own. The gap widened at home on Sunday night, when Belmont took an 8-2 win. Again the team had a strong first period, scoring four unanswered goals, then drawing first blood in the second period with an early shot between the pipes. Matt McClinchey finally got his team on the board less than two minutes later with help from Chapman. This effort was soon cancelled when Belmont again lit the light. The visitors went up 7-1 in the third, but Chapman set up Chris Jutzi who bulged the twine for Brussels. Belmont finished it off with one more goal at the four-minute mark to end the scoring.
