Brussels PeeWees challenge for A championship
The Brussels PeeWees put on a
great show in Clifford when they
participated in a tournament last
weekend.
They took on Kincardine in their
first game, holding off until the third
to secure the win.
Zachary Hoegy scored first, with
the assistance of Joel Wilkinson,
only to see Kincardine even the tally.
Both squads were kept off the
board in the second, but the Brussels
offence kicked in for the third
period.
Taylor Prior got a natural hattrick,
beating the netminder three times in
just under five and a half minutes.
Lending a hand on the plays were
Tom Cronin, Thomas Johnston,
Hoegy and Wilkinson.
Cronin and Brian Burgess added
singles before the final buzzer to top
off Brussels’ 6-1 victory. Assists
were earned by Westin McLeod
(two) and Jason Bowman.
The contest against Twin Centre
was a much more difficult game
with Brussels down 1-0 after two
and a half periods.
Burgess got Brussels on the board
midway through the third after
picking up a pass from McLeod and
Bowman.
With just a couple of minutes
remaining, Brussels found
themselves down by a goal and
Cronin awarded a penalty shot after
a Twin Centre player threw his stick
at the puck.
Cronin’s attempt was good,
sending the teams into overtime.
Prior sealed the win with less than
a minute left.
This moved the PeeWees into the
A championship against London.
Though Prior netted the first goal
of the game, with help from Cronin,
the defence was unable to keep
London off the board.
Brussels lost 2-1.

Brussels Tykes
take Blyth 9-2
In spite of Brock McLean's early,
first-period goal for the Brussels
Tykes, the team had a tough match
against Blyth Jan. 18.
After several saved shots by
Brussels defender Anthony Vader,
Blyth’s Heidi Raynard put the puck
in the net after picking up a rebound.
Alex Peters scored two for Blyth
before the buzzer to give his team a
3-1 lead, in spite of some big stops
by goalie Wyatt Ducharme.
Early in the second, Bryce
Armstong’s play into the Blyth end
was stopped. McLean added one to
the scoresheet midway through the
period, only to see Raynard regain
the two-goal advantage for Blyth.
Armstrong’s late period attempt to
score was thwarted.
Brussels ended the middle frame
down 6-2.
Blyth tallied three more in the
third for a final of 9-2.
