Jonah went in the opposite direction towards Spain, so God sent a storm to stop him. The sailors determined that Jonah was the cause of the terrible storm so they threw him overboard and the seas calmed. Jonah was swallowed by a big fish and from the inside of the fish Jonah talked to God and the fish deposited him back off the Mediterranean coast. Jonah learned his first lesson and continued to Nineveh to declare their doom for their wickedness. Unexpectedly the people repented and God withdrew his plan for the city. Jonah became angry with God and left the city. The moral of this story is “Don’t be a Jonah; bejike God who shows mercy even to the nasty Assyrians, if they repent.
