North Huron takes steps to rename street

North Huron council at its Jan. 20
meeting agreed to start the process of
renaming one of Wingham's streets.
Legion President Al Harrison, asked
council to consider renaming
Diagonal Road, from John to Victoria
Street, to a name that recognizes the
war veterans at the Jan. 20 council
meeting. “It would be a fitting tribute
to our veterans who are now few and
far between." Harrison stated.
Since the Wingham cenotaph is
located on Diagonal Road. Harrison
thought renaming that street to
Veteran's Lane or Memorial Road
would be appropriate.
Clerk-Administrator John Stewart
said the process wasn't too difficult.
A street name in Blyth has been
changed since amalgamation.
Stewart said a public meeting
would have to be held to get input
from those who support and oppose
the proposition. He explained after
the meeting the new name would go
to the County planning department

Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, Jan. 26 were Joann
MacDonald and Judy Gleave.
Ushering was Cliff Snell.
Rev. Eugen Bannerman welcomed
everyone. The choir’s anthem was I,
the Lord of the Sea and Sky. The
children’s hymn was He’s Got the
Whole World in His Hands. - The
children’s story was, A Fish That
Actually Swallowed A Man. The
dramatized Lectionary Reading by
the Blyth United Drama Club and
James Douglas was Jonah 1: 1-17.
Responsive reading was Psalm 62
and the Gospel reading was from
Mark 1: 14-20.
Rev. Bannerman’s message to
adults was A Whale of a Story. God
had directed Jonah to go to Nineveh,
the capital of the Assyrian empire.
Jonah went in the opposite direction
towards Spain, so God sent a storm
to stop him. The sailors determined
that Jonah was the cause of the
terrible storm so they threw him
overboard and the seas calmed.
Jonah was swallowed by a big fish
and from the inside of the fish Jonah
talked to God and the fish deposited
him back off the Mediterranean
coast. Jonah learned his first lesson
and continued to Nineveh to declare
their doom for their wickedness.
Unexpectedly the people repented
and God withdrew his plan for the
city. Jonah became angry with God
and left the city.
The moral of this story is “Don’t
be a Jonah; bejike God who shows
mercy even to the nasty Assyrians, if
they repent.
Nineveh was eventually destroyed
and never rebuilt. Il is now an
archaeological site.
and they would look to see if any
changes to 911 signage needed to be
made.
“It's not a big deal." Stewart said.

gave his annual report to council. He
reported he look 19 dogs to the
veterinarian and returned 12 back to
their owners. He was contacted over
five dog bites and nine barking dogs.

in two court cases. He issued one
kennel licence.
He took care of four sick skunks,
including one which tested positive
for rabies. He also caught five sick
foxes from Blyth and East
Wawanosh.
Trick worked with Wingham police
on five different occasions and laid
five tickets. He took home one llama
and brought nine cats to the
veterinarian.
He also spoke with seven
skateboarders in Blyth and told them
about the bylaw restricting
skateboarding.

Council was given an 80 per cent
grant for several day care projects
from the County of Huron.
North Huron will pay the
remaining 20 per cent cost of the
projects that funded things such as
