Lance Magdziak St. Michael’s Roman Catholic , Church In 1967, the Russian film industry made a seven-hour long movie of Tolstoy's novel War and Peace. In the film a key scene was at the end of the battle of Borodino, where Russian forces met Napoleon’s invading army just outside of Moscow. One of the main characters of Tolstoy's novel. Prince Anrrei, lies mortally wounded on the battlefield. The camera focuses on his face, then pulls upward to reveal the shattered landscape around him, littered with bodies of the dead and wounded, wreathed in smoke, filled with the screams and cries... Modern warfare inevitably damages us all. Modern wars have characteristically been fought to end war or terrorism, they have been fought in the name of peace. Our most terrible weapons have been made to preserve and assure the peace of the world! What’s more, war has become the great “cure-all” and opportunity of our corporate economy. War ended the Depression of the 1930s, and many believe it can do miracles for people in the 21st Brussels century. On Monday, Jan. 13, Pope John Paul II was speaking about European Parliament at Strasbourg. A Liberal German Newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung which was always critical of the Polish Pope, this time with enthusiasm, wrote on the front page about the powerful voice of the Peacemaker. Can you and I speak about peace? Can we reflect upon the Gospel message from Matthew 5: 44-46: “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them...” St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church 254 Drummond St. E., Blyth Sunday Mass 9:00 a.m. Father Lance Magdziak, Pastor 519-527-0142 email: stjames@rcec.london.on.ca THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF CANADA Sunday, January 26 MORNING PRAYER - 3rd SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY ST.
