FROM WALTON
Walton residents
celebrate holidays
Continued from page 20
George, B.C. Vai Reeves arrived
Boxing Day and left New Year’s
Day. They have been friends for
some 30 years. Patty gave her a
mini-tour of the surrounding area as
well as shopping in St. Jacobs. They
attended the surrounding area as
well as shopping in St. Jacobs. They
attended a dinner party and a New
Year’s Eve party. Patty reports that it
was great to be able to share her life
in Ontario with Vai. It was Vai’s first
time in Ontario.
She even met the Mayor of
Walton, Neil McGavin, as that was
how Patty introduced her and Vai
really thought he was!
Floyd and Pat Hilts had their
Duff’s marks season with 4 services
Duff's United Church held four
services in the celebration of the
Christmas season. On the fourth
Sunday of Advent, the Sacrament of
Communion and Baptism were
observed. The candle of Love was lit
on the Advent Wreath by Mathew
and Ray Huether. The communion
Sacraments were presented by Paul
and Dianne McCallum and Neil and
Marie McGavin.
The child presented for baptism
was Jacob Tyler Schmelter, son of
Rick and Nancy (Godkin)
Schmeltzer.
Christmas Eve service was a
community service led by Karen
Hoegy and Marie McGavin.
All attending were greeted by the
family Christmas at the Walton Hall
on Jan. 4. They had five out of seven
of their children in attendance plus

New Dundee, Mississauga and
Clifford and area. They had a great
day together.

Linton, Jeff Black, Brent Melady,
Courtney Bachert and now Claire

Wey’s granddaughter. Special music
was provided by Gloria Wilbee who
sang The Lord’s Prayer, Graeme
Craig who sang O Holy Night and by
the combined choir who sang A Tiny
Baby Will Come.
The final candle of the Advent
wreath was lit by Jeff and Jacob
McGavin.
The story of Christmas was related
through the reading of the scriptures
by Neil McGavin, Andrew Van
Vliet, Kevin Wilbee, Marilyn
McDonald, Karla Kale, Sarah
McDonald, and Murray Dennis.
Prayers of dedication and the
blessing were presented by Marion
Godkin and Graeme Craig.
The many families who gathered
enjoyed the singing of the familiar
Christmas carols throughout the
service andxhe extra musical talents
of Glenda Morrison and Phyllis
Mitchell.
On the first Sunday of Christmas,
members of the congregation were
greeted by Murray and Olene
Dennis. The reflection by Joan
Tuchlinsky was The Quiltmaker’s
gift, a story of how the true joy of a
gift, is in the giving. On display at
the front of the church was a quilt -
a quilt made in 1949 by the CGIT
(Canadian Girls In Training)
embroidered with many familiar
family names of the area The quilt
belongs to Leona McDonald.
Greeting on the first Sunday of the
new year were Graeme, Helen and
Michael Craig. It was the last day of
the Christmas season and the
beginning of Epiphany. The theme
of the service was light.
The Time for the Young at Heart
encouraged the children to share
their gifts and their light that they all
can be a shining star with God’s
love.
The reflection was a story from
Matthew read by Jo-Ann McDonald
with Joan giving the message
between the different verses.

Mitchell and Brian McGavin.
