Vai Reeves arrived Boxing Day and left New Year’s Day. They have been friends for some 30 years. Patty gave her a mini-tour of the surrounding area as well as shopping in St. Jacobs. Patty reports that it was great to be able to share her life in Ontario with Vai. It was Vai’s first time in Ontario. She even met the Mayor of Walton, Neil McGavin, as that was how Patty introduced her and Vai really thought he was! Floyd and Pat Hilts had their Duff’s marks season with 4 services Duff's United Church held four services in the celebration of the Christmas season. On the fourth Sunday of Advent, the Sacrament of Communion and Baptism were observed. The candle of Love was lit on the Advent Wreath by Mathew and Ray Huether. The communion Sacraments were presented by Paul and Dianne McCallum and Neil and Marie McGavin. The child presented for baptism was Jacob Tyler Schmelter, son of Rick and Nancy (Godkin) Schmeltzer. Christmas Eve service was a community service led by Karen Hoegy and Marie McGavin. All attending were greeted by the family Christmas at the Walton Hall on Jan. 4. They had five out of seven of their children in attendance plus 10 grandchildren. They came from New Dundee, Mississauga and Clifford and area. They had a great day together. Ringing in the New Year means another year of maturity (for some). New Year babies include Dave Linton, Jeff Black, Brent Melady, Courtney Bachert and now Claire Mitchell. Also celebrating this past week were Michael Craig, Don Nolan, Ben Hoegy, Jody McIntosh, Julie Mitchell, Marjory Fraser, Robbie Mitchell, Evelyn Blake, Judy Glauser and Ken Moffett. lovely sounds of the harp played by Karla Kale, Campbell and Edith Wey’s granddaughter. Special music was provided by Gloria Wilbee who sang The Lord’s Prayer, Graeme Craig who sang O Holy Night and by the combined choir who sang A Tiny Baby Will Come. The final candle of the Advent wreath was lit by Jeff and Jacob McGavin. The story of Christmas was related through the reading of the scriptures by Neil McGavin, Andrew Van Vliet, Kevin Wilbee, Marilyn McDonald, Karla Kale, Sarah McDonald, and Murray Dennis. Prayers of dedication and the blessing were presented by Marion Godkin and Graeme Craig. The many families who gathered enjoyed the singing of the familiar Christmas carols throughout the service andxhe extra musical talents of Glenda Morrison and Phyllis Mitchell. On the first Sunday of Christmas, members of the congregation were greeted by Murray and Olene Dennis. The reflection by Joan Tuchlinsky was The Quiltmaker’s gift, a story of how the true joy of a gift, is in the giving. On display at the front of the church was a quilt - a quilt made in 1949 by the CGIT (Canadian Girls In Training) embroidered with many familiar family names of the area The quilt belongs to Leona McDonald. Greeting on the first Sunday of the new year were Graeme, Helen and Michael Craig. It was the last day of the Christmas season and the beginning of Epiphany. The theme of the service was light. The Time for the Young at Heart encouraged the children to share their gifts and their light that they all can be a shining star with God’s love. The reflection was a story from Matthew read by Jo-Ann McDonald with Joan giving the message between the different verses. The confirmation class met for the first time on Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. The II confirmants and their mentors had lunch together before classes. The monthly church duties are being looked after by Graeme and Helen Craig and the ushers are Howard Hackwell, Emerson Mitchell and Brian McGavin. Greeting on Sunday are Ian and Mark Wilbee. The annual meeting is Jan. 19 and Walton service will be at 11 a.m. instead of 9:30 a.m. Lunch and meeting will follow the service.
