Crusaders tally first points in hard-fought ties Aller not getting points in their previous six games, the Brussels Crusaders have recorded points in their last two WOAA Sr. A games. On Dec. 22 the team had a dramatic 5-5 tie with the Georgian Bay River Rats. Chad Haggilt gave the Crusaders an early lead with help from Dave Lewington and Craig Marks. But Georgian Bay scored one before the end of the period and came out Hying in the third tying the game with roughly eight minutes left. They scored the go-ahead goal to make it 5-4 with l:06 left on the clock. With Brussels goalie Jeff White on the bench and a face-off in the Georgian Bay zone, the puck came to Brian Oldfield who put it home to. tie the game. Marks and Campbell earned assists. Overtime solved nothing and the Crusaders were lucky to come out of the game with the tie. On Dec. 27 the team travelled to Monkton to play the Wildcats. For six of the Crusaders it was a homecoming of sorts as they had played in Monkton last season. After a scoreless first period, Monkton scored three second-period goals. The Crusaders came out flying in the third and Campbell made it 3-1 with help from Dave Ansley. Ansley made it 3-2 with help from Chad Haggitt and Mark Wilson. Mike Haggitt tied it with help from Marc Fischer and Jason Kellington. This sent the game to overtime. Ski council has improved website The Canadian Ski Council has recently revamped its website to provide skiers and riders with all the information they need. Skiers and riders can click on www.skicanada.org and www.canadasnowboard.org to access this bilingual site. The site includes: • links to Canadian alpine ski and cross-country areas • information on ski, snowboard and cross-country equipment and tips, including links to equipment and accessories manufacturers and suppliers However, Monkton scored 22 seconds into the extra frame handing the Crusaders an overtime loss whidh is good for a point in the standings. Manager Jamie McCallum said “this has been a trying season for the Crusaders. They are a very young team compared to the others in the league and the lack of experience shows.
