Knight hosts Guild's Christmas meeting The Christmas meeting of Melville Women's Guild was held at the home of Dona Knight on ; Tuesday evening, Dec. 1og:41th 12 1 members present. The president Leona Armstrong welcomed everyone and thanked Mrs. Knight for hosting the meeting. Dear friends, I am writing to tell you that there will be a new correspondent. I have just had a birthday — that adds one year but for me now it seems about five! It's a case of the old grey mare ain't what she used to be. So, I'm handing over Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh councillors received very good news at the Dec. 3 session when they heard about the reassessment of Community Reinvestment Fund allocations. Having received just $639,000 in both 2001 and 2002, they were pleased to learn that this figure will be upped to $985,000 in 2003. They will also receive an additional $692,000 prior to the end of the year as the previous two year's sums have been recalculated. The $692,000 will be placed in a reserve fund which has been depleted in recent years. Koopmans, Goderich, has just received word of the death of a brother of her late husband Russell. Yanny is not going to try to attend the funeral — Holland is a long way off. Our deepest sympathy to her and the family due to this bereavement. Mrs. Bernice Anderson has been and still is ill with acute bronchitis. However, she is feeling some better. Council will consider changing the stop sign from CP Line to McGaw Road after hearing concerns from local residents, a milk truck driver and school bus drivers. The incline on CP line is very steep at the intersections and drivers find it hard to accelerate from a stop in icy road conditions. The process of adopting a bylaw to change the signs will be undertaken. The class environmental assessment for the Safford area has been completed. The minutes of the November meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was read. Mrs. Armstrong thanked Jean Bewley, Eluned McNair and Mary Huether for delivering the poinsettias. After many years as treasurer visit on Thursday. Later in the afternoon Bernice Gross arrived with a gift of a lovely white poinsettia from Knox United Church. It has a place of honour at the dining room table. Other Knox members are also enjoying their Christmas flower. On Thursday, Dec. 19 the Walkerbum Club went to Restview Nursing Home, Clinton and had carol singing with the folks. Ila Cunningham played the piano and Deanna Snell led the singing. The club also was informed that the child's crib quilt Puppy Love that the members had made sold for $200 at the quilt sale. It's nice to know that someone will enjoy it. A quote from MDS/PSC Laboratory Services for water testing of the township-owned systems was accepted. Equipment rate quotes for the landfill sites were accepted from Graham Cook at the Ashfield site and Lloyd Collins Construction at the Wawanosh site. Cook will be paid $60 per hour for each of the loader and dozer while Collins will receive $65 for the hyhoe excavator. Bylaws setting out minimum standards for municipal highways in the township and the erection of stop signs at intersections were approved by council. Jeanne Ireland announced she would like to have someone take over 'the position. Jeanne Kirkby volunteered. The January meeting will begin with a potluck supper at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 with Mrs. McNair and Mrs. Armstrong preparing devotions. DOROTHY SHAW TOWNSEND Dorothy Townsend of Seaforth and formerly of Tuckersmith Twp. passed away at Seaforth Community Hospital on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002. She was in her 90th year. She was the beloved wife of the late Elmer Townsend who predeceased her in 1988. She was the dear mother of Elizabeth and Robert' Haves, Komoka; Alex and Aileen, Seaforth; Erma and Ed Watson, St. Thomas; George and Ruth, Seaforth and Gerald and Mary, Arthur. Mrs. Townsend was the special grandmother to 15: Gary and Lynn Haves, Wayne Haves, Grant Haves and Lori, David and Connie Townsend, Julie and Darryl Norris, Scott and Kerry Townsend, Rob and Tanya Haswell, Cheryl Haswell and fiancé Todd, Murray and Michelle Townsend, Matt and Aimee Townsend, Charlene and Jim O'Reilly, Ray Townsend, Michael Townsend, Daphne Townsend and Daniel Townsend. She was the loving great-grandma "Dolly" of 12. Mrs. Townsend was the dear sister of Erma Broadfoot, Kitchener, John and Marjorie Broadfoot, Brucefield and Elizabeth Trefry, Richards The roll call was answered with each member giving a Christmas reading or poem. Everyone repeated the Mizpah Benediction. The gift exchange, opening the gifts and showing them off was a fun time for everyone. A carol-sing followed and lunch was enjoyed by all. Landing. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Thelma Pryce, Seaforth and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by infant grandson, Jamie Townsend, brother- in-law Dr. Harold Trefry, her parents Alex and Elizabeth (Smith) Broadfoot and special friend Harold Coleman (2002). Family received friends at _the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth on Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. wherestlfeftnieral service was held on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. Rev. Nicholas Vandermey officiated. Pallbearers were: Grant Haves, David Townsend, Rob Haswell, Murray Townsend, Ray Townsend, Michael Townsend. Flowerbearers were Julie Norris, Cheryl FJaswell, Charlene O'Reilly, Daphne Townsend and Daniel Townsend. The eulogy was Townsend. Organist " rald ol Carter. Interment will be in Turner's Cemetery. Memorial donations tw. Turner's Cemetery would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
