PAGE 25 15 workshops scheduled Producers on calendar Ontario's pork producers are featured in a new Faces of Farming calendar launched at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Nov. 8. Faces of Farming features a collection of classic black and white photographs of pork producers from acrpss Ontario. Clare Schlegel, chair of Ontario Pork, said "The response to last year's calendar was overwhelmingly positive. Urban and rural people alike gave us many supportive comments about the quality of the calendar and how nice it was to put a face to farmers. As farmers, we need to keep telling our story and getting to know the people who live in our communities and buy our products." Today less than three per cent of Canadians farm and many people rarely give a second thought as to where their food comes from. The purpose of the calendar is to introduce farmers as to the public, their customers. Each farmer has a different story to tell, yet all are committed to farming and raising pigs. The calendar covers December 2002 - December 2003. Calendars can also be ordered on-line at www.ontariopork.on.ca or by contacting Ontario Pork at 1-877- 668-7675. Cost is $10 each. Ontario Pork represents the 4,200 farmers who market hogs in the province in many areas, including hog marketing, consumer education, research, government representation. environmental issues, animal care and food quality assurance. The, pork industry in Ontario accounts for 35,000 jobs and it is estimated that total industry output from farm gate sales is worth $5.6 billion to the Ontario economy. Frustrated father Claren Yuill of East Wawanosh Public School portrays an annoyed Mr. Rogers in the humorous Grade 5/6 skit about Christmas preparations as the students prepared for their Christmas concert Tuesday night. (Janice Becker photo) Continued from page 20 eventually cover all seven essential areas of life cycle planning including succession, contingency, estate, retirement, strategic, environmental and business planning. "The business planning workshops provide an opportunity to assess the feasibility of your operation at whatever stage it is in, and create a plan for its future." Fifteen one-day workshops have been scheduled across Ontario. The number of participants for each workshop is limited, so early registration is encouraged. The workshops in this area include: Wednesday, Feb. 19, OMAF/Ministry of Natural Resources Office, 100 Don St., Clinton, Ontario, Tel: 519-482-3428, and Tuesday, Feb. 18, Dunkeld Restaurant, County Rd. 3, RR4, Walkerton, Ontario.
