Rev. Dave Wood

Missionary Church, Auburn.
'Tis the season to be grumpy, fa la
la la la, la la la la!
Well, you would think they
changed the words the way some
people go about their Christmas
business. I was in the food court in
the mall in London recently and the
dour faces and the sour looks were
downright depressing.
I admit I am used to such sights
with my neighbours on each side of
me but oh boy, such a disposition in
the season of good will.
And the way people treat each
other is mystifying. I could not
believe how rude and abrupt the
food servers were treated. No
wonder these poor creatures treated
me with suspicion as I greeted them
with a big smile,
Joy to the world, peace to men on
earth? Words and actions seem to be
in opposition and yet I am so glad
that the good news of the angel was
not and is not dependent upon the

The UCW will have a Come and
Go tea and dinner at night on Jan. 4.
There is a dinner on Jan. 14.
Angels made by some ladies of
the church were given to birthday
celebrants.
Isabel Wheeler and Joan Bernard
looked after the worship. Scripture
was read from Matthew and John by
Mrs. Wheeler. Mrs. Bernard led in
prayer. Musical numbers were
presented by three of Joan's
grandchildren, Aryn, Jillian and
Averly Kikkert. Sarah Baker played
three numbers on the piano and
Shalin Diehl played three numbers
on the violin.
The topic was It Came to Pass in
Those Days.

recipients. No way. The message of
the Saviour is backed by all the
power of heaven and the message
has not changed and even if society
should attempt to secularize this
sacred season, changing its name, it
will not and cannot change the
message.
"Do not be afraid. I bring you
news of great joy that will be for all
the people. Today in the town of
David a Saviour has been born to
you; He is Christ the Lord." (Luke
2:10-11, NIV)
This is Christmas. This is the hope
that has been offered to man, of
which the angel pronounced as good
news. Christ the Lord has come and
by His life, death and resurrection,
Jesus Christ has made peace with
God for all who would accept His
gift of salvation.
True peace, of a kind that passes
all understanding, is made possible
in Jesus.
Don't let the hustle and bustle
drown out the message of angels.
Don't let the gift of Christmas pass
you by.
No matter what is said, Jesus is
still the reason for the season and
good news, to you a Saviour is horn,
He is Christ the Lord. Open His gift
to you.
Blessings and a joyous Christmas
to all.
