The Ethel euchre was held on
Monday, Dec. 9, hosted by Bob and
Isabelle Bremner.
Winners were: share-the-wealth,
Richard Elliott, Helen Dobson; high,
Isabelle Gray, John Subject; lone
hands, Viola Adams, Dorothy
Dilworth, Eileen Mann; low, Alda
Worden, Adrian Verstoep.
There were 14 lucky tally prizes.
The next euchre will be held on
Dec. 23 at 8:30 p.m. This is a special
Christmas euchre.
Many Ethel and area residents
came out to the first annual Ethel
Community Christmas Celebration
last Thursday evening.
Doug Conley's hay wagon .was
full of jolly carollers who sang
through town and shouted "Merry
Christmas" to those who came to
their doors and windows to listen.
Upon arriving at the community
centre we were greeted by the sweet
smell of hot chocolate and the
festive sounds of Mr. AIf Sutton
(who looked incredibly dapper in his
tails and top hat) at the piano.
Ethel was able to help out the
Salvation Army with the generous
food and cash donations brought
forth by the community that
evening. It really seemed like a
Christmas blessing to hear people
singing, see children playing with
each other and look around at
neighbours chatting and laughing.
• Sue Brubacher, Andrew Versteeg,
Francine Bechard, Brenda
McKinnon, Lori Dillon, Jan Schul,
Ginette Zaba and Charlene
Brubacher-we thank you!

Restaurant.
The firefighters responded to an
emergency call for a chimney fire
this past week.
Cornerstone Bible Fellowship
youth group held its Christmas
Celebration and Secret Santa
exchange on Sunday.
From our home to yours, from our

holiday season bring us closer
together, help us to._take time to
savour the moments and see us all

Three Brussels residents recently
received recognition for the
tremendous works they undertake in
and around their community to make
it a better place to live.
When the Municipality of Huron
East decided to award citizenship
plaques to its residents, Bill and Gert
Kellington and Rene Richmond were
among the recipients.
Though Gert Kellington says she
will soon be reducing her activities,
she and Bill have helped keep the
village beautiful by planting and
looking after the flowerbeds in town
and watering the tlowerboxes. Mrs.
Kellington is currently the president
of the Horticultural Society.
Not only do the couple visit shut-
ins and other seniors at Huronlea,
Mr. Kellington . hands out
wheelchairs and walkers to those in
need through his lodge.
They . provide transportation to
hospital and doctor appointments as
well as visits to friends, club
meetings and choir practice.
Mrs. Kellington is on the lunch
committee for the Brussels United
Church and president of the UCW.
She belongs to three lodges and is
the Noble Grand of the Rebekahs.
In her spare time, she knits afghans
for Huronlea and hats and mittens for
the Christmas Bureau,
This will be her last year for
knitting projects.
The other BrusselS recipient, Rene
Richmond, is equally involved,
providing rides for appointments,
delivering shut-in boxes, working for
her church and the Brussels Business
Association. She is also a Rebekah.
Richmond chaired the very
successful Christmas home tour and
is currently working to encourage
businesses and individuals to "adopt
a storefront" in the village.
Those choosing to adopt a window
would help to spruce it up and
improve the appearance of main
street.
Humble about her contributions,
Richmond points out that there are a
lot of people behind the scene who
do a tremendous amount of work to
make events happen.
"I just happen to be the organizer,"
she says.
