The North American touring
production of Eve Ensler's The
Vagina Monologues, the celebrated
and provocative play that has
become a cultural phenomenon
worldwide, will play Kitchener for
six performances at The Centre In
The Square. Jan. 28 to Jan. 30 at 8
p.m. Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 1 at 2

The Vagina Monologues, based on
over 200 interviews with a diverse
group of women from around the
globe, has grown from an Off-
Broadway hit into an international
cultural phenomenon and has been
performed in over 40 countries along
with two North American touring
companies. It is currently booked in
over 160 cities in the U.S. and
Canada, and has been translated into
over 35 different languages.
To capture the essence of the Off-
Broadway- production, which
continues with a rotating trio of
women, the North American tour is
specifically designed to incorporate
guest performers: The Centre In The
Square is proud to have Margot
Kidder as the star. The tour travels
with two guest performers in each
city.
Past guest performers have
included Brooke Sheilds. Maria
Conchita Alonso, Ricki Lake,
Sharon Gless, Carol Kane, JoBeth
Williams, Jasmine Guy, Jerry Hall,
Kelly McGillis, Loretta Swit, among
many others.
The Vagina Monologues is raising
millions of dollars to stop violence
against women and girls. In 1998 as
an outgrowth of the success of the
show, V-Day was born.
V-Day is a non-profit organization
that funds grassroots groups
working to stop violence against
women and girls and helping those
who are survivors of violence.
The text of The Vagina
Monologues is the centrepiece of V-
Day benefit performances that take
place around the world. At V-Day
2001. which sold out Madison
Square Garden (18,000 seats),
Ensler was joined by such stars as
Oprah Winfrey, Jane Fonda, Glenn
Close, Calista Flockhart, Manta
Tomei, Rosie Perez, Teri Hatcher,

This year, over 800 productions of
The Vagina Monologues took place
on college campuses and in
communities to raise funding and
awareness for V Day and grassroots
organizations. The professional
productions of the show have raised
over $5-million to date, and have
served as a base for V-Day to receive
matching funds from corporations.
This year, V-Day should be able to
give away ever $10-million.
The Vagina Monologue's partners
with loal charities in each
community it performs in. These
charities will be the recipients of
funding from V-Day and monies
raised from the performances.
