4-H members receive Huron CO!. awards

The Huron County 4-H awards
were presented during the annual
ceremony held at Central Huron
Secondary School on Nov. 24.
The Canadian Imperial Bank of
Commerce, Huron County Branches
presented an award for the 4-H dairy
member with the highest score in the
county. Kora Bennett was the winner
for 2002. She had a score of 941
points out of a possible 1000.
Elliott Insurance of Blyth' donated
a trophy to the person showing the
Champion Dairy Calf at the Seaforth
Fall Fair. This year's winner was
Bennett.
Thomas Deuschle was the
recipient of the Auburn Co-op
Award. The award was donated by
the Auburn Co-op -and given to
Deuschle for exhibiting the Reserve
Champion 4-H Dairy Calf at the
Seaforth Fair.
The Huron Bay Co-op award was
donated to the Champion Dairy
Showman at the Seaforth Fall Fair
and the winner was Curtis McNeil.
A trophy, donated by D & D Glass
of Vanastra, went to Bennett. She
was the Reserve Champion Dairy
Showman at the Seaforth Fall Fair.
The Bank of Nova Scotia Award
was given to Brad VanOsch for
bein g the Novice Dairy Showman at
the Seaforth Fall Fair.
The Huron Holstein Club Awards
were presented to the 4-H Dairy
Club members with the first and
second highest scores in. the county,
who had a holstein calf. The first
place winner was McNeil, with a
score of 937 out of 1000. With a
score of 934 out of 1000, Margaret
Vincent was the second place
winner.
Sara Baker won the Huron County
Beef Producers' Award for being the
first year beef club member with the
highest score., The award was
donated by the Huron County Beef
Producers.
The special awards were open to
any 4-H member in Huron County.
A member does not have to be a
member of a competitive club to win
any of the following awards,
Signal Star Publishing of
Goderich was the sponsor of the 4-H
Press Reporter Competition. The
first place Press Reporter book was
submitted by Andrew Ross of the
Lucknow Dairy Club. The second
place winner was Ben Caldwell of
Belgrave Brussels Beef Club, and
Corey Godfrey of the Port Albert
Club was the third place winner.
The Vincent Farm Eq uipment
trophy went to the club that had the
top educational display at the
Seaforth Fair. The award was won
by the Huron Chinchilla Club.
Kathryn Alton was the top judge at
the Huron County 4-H Judging
Competition. The Huron County
branches of the Canadian Imperial
presented with the Don Pullen
Bank of Commerce donated the
award.
Hill & Hill Farms Ltd. donated the
award for the top Senior Judge at
this year's Judging Competition.
The award was presented to Alton.
The Watson Home Hardware
Team Judging Competition Award
was presented to the top team in the
Huron County Judging Competition
held in August. The winning team
members were Curtis McNeil, Derek
VanDieten, Mark McLean and
Anthony Nolan.
Tonya Drost won the Cargill
Award for being the High
Intermediate Judge at the County
Judging competition.
The High Junior Judge, Kayla
Bishop, was the recipient of the Hill
& Hill Farms Ltd. Award.
The Herman District Co-operative
Londesboro Branch donated the
award to the top Novice Judge at the
County Judging competition held in
Seaforth in August. The award was
presented to Lindsay Watson.
Cargill Limited presented a watch
to each member of the winning team
at the Huron County "Go For The
Gold" competition. This year's
winnin g team were the members of
the Port Albert Club, Alysha
Crawford, Jenn Logtenberg, Brodie
Ryan and Jenna VanOsch.
Curtis McNeil-was the recipient of
the TD Canada Trust Award donated
by the Seaforth branch of the TD
Canada Trust. The award was for the
Champion Sweepstakes Showman at
the Seaforth Fall Fair.
The late Stan Jackson was a noted
Hereford breeder from Kippen who
left a substantial amount of money
in a trust fund for the Huron County'
4-H beef club participating in the
Seaforth Junior Fair. Each year the
interest from this fund is used for-
prize money. Corey Rintoul
exhibited the Grand Champion Beef
Steer at the Seaforth Fair and
received a gift and a cheque. Brad
Gilchrist exhibited the Reserve
Champion Beef. Steer at the the
Seaforth Fair and received a cheque.
Keisha Bishop exhibited the third
place steer and received a cheque.
Travis MacPherson exhibited the
fourth place steer and also received a
cheque.
Matt Scott exhibited the
Champion Heifer at the Seaforth
Fall Fair and received a gift and a
cheque. The Reserve Champion
Heifer was exhibited by Nigel
Black. He received a cheque. Bill
Rundle also received a cheque for
his third place heifer exhibited at the
Seaforth Fall Fair. Garritt Vincent
exhibited the fourth place heifer and
received a cheque.
Corey Rintoul of the Belgrave
Brussels Beef Club received a
cheque for high score in the Huron
County Beef Clubs. She had 947
points out of a possible 1000.
The Hensall District Co-op
donated an award to the Club
exhibiting the top exhibit of winter
wheat at the Seaforth Fair. The
Huron Swine Club won the award.
The Huron County Soil and Crop
Improvement award goes to the top
club exhibit of first-cut hay at the
Seaforth Fair. Donated by the Huron
County Soil and Crop Improvement
Association, the winners were the
Huron Sheep Club. The presentation
was made to Tonya Drost.
The Cook's Division of Parrish
and Heimbecker Ltd. trophy is
donated by the Cooks to the club
with the champion white bean
exhibit at the Seaforth Fair. The
recipient was the Huron Sheep Club.
The award was presented to Suzanne
Coleman.
The First Line Seeds Award,
donated by First Line Seeds for the
champion soybean at the Seaforth
Fall Fair, was presented to the Huron
Swine Club.
Les and John Coleman of Kippen
presented the award to the club
exhibiting the champion haylage at
the Seaforth Junior Fair. The
winners were the Huron Sheep Club.
The award was presented to Shawn
Drost of the Sheep Club.
The Russell T. Bolton Memorial
Trophy was donated by the Bolton
Family in memory of Russell Bolton
of Seaforth and was presented to the
Huron Sheep Club for the the
Champion Corn Exhibit at the
Seaforth Fall Fair. Suzanne Coleman
of the Sheep Club received the
award.
The Huron Swine Club won the
W. G. Thompson and Sons Limited
Trophy, donated by W.G. Thompson
and Sons Ltd. of Hensall for the Top
Barley exhibit at the Seaforth Junior
Fair.
The awards for the Secretary's
Book Competition were donated by
the Huron County' 4-H Leaders'
Association. The first-place
recipient was Sara Moore of the
Chinchilla Club, who received $15.
Lorraine Kroes of the Huron Swine
Club was the second-place winner,
receiving $10. Nicole Moore of the
Huron Sheep Club received $5 for
her third place win.
The presentation of six, 12, 18, 24,
30, 36, and 42 seals and awards

The YIS Financial Award was
presented by Lawrence Bean to the
Champion Senior Showman at the
Seaforth Fair. This year's winner
was Nigel Black.
The Brussels Agri Services Award
was presented by Tim Prior to the
Champion Beef Showman at the
Seaforth Fall Fair. Nigel Black was
this year's winner.
The Maple Ridge Beef Farm
Award was donated by Paul Coultes
to the Champion Junior Beef
showman at the Seaforth Fair. This
year's winner was Melinda Scott.
The W.J. (Bill) Sproul Memorial
Award was donated by the Auburn
Lion's Club and presented to the top
Beef Group of three at the Seaforth
Fair. The winners of the group of
three were Travis MacPherson,
Corey Rintoul and Garritt Vincent of
the Belgrave, Brussels Club.
The Jan Hayward Award was
presented to Stephanie Munday as
the Goat Club member with the
highest score. She had a score of 972
out of a possible 1000.
The Rona Cashway Award was
given as the Award of Merit to a
member of the Huron Goat Club
with the second highest club score.
The recipient of the award was
Sarah Broadfoot.
The Gallagher Fencing Award
winner was Greg Munday, who was
the Reserve Goat Showman at the
Seaforth Fall kair.
The Paul Klopp award was
presented to Stephanie Munday as
the Champion Goat Showman at the
Seaforth Fair.
The Bryon Clarke Award was
presented to Evan Klaver as the
Novice High Score Goat Club
member.
The Neil McGavin Award was
presented -to the 4-H member with
the highest score in Huron County
Plowmen's Club. Shawn Flanagan
was this year's winner with 0819
points out of a possible 1000.
The Royal Bank Award was
presented to Erica Murray as the
first year member in the 4-H
Sodbuster Club with the highest
score. The award was donated by the
Huron/Perth Agricultural Centre of
the Royal Bank in Exeter.
The Townsend Tire Award was
presented to Greg Murray as the
youngest 4-H member active in the
Sodbuster Club.
The Ross Gordon Memorial
Award was donated to the 4-H
Sodbuster member who had the best
crown at the 4-H Junior Day at the
Huron County Plowing Match. This
year's winner was Steven O'Rourke.
The Sodbuster Leader Awards
were presented by the leaders of the
Sodbuster club. Steve Haney won
the first award for the top land
plowed at the Achievement program
