Missed in last week's news was a visitor to Walton. Helen Craig's sister Mary from Burnaby, British Columbia was here for the weekend to attend the celebration of 60 years of marriage for Jack and Florence Carter. It was a family party at Northside United Church in Seaforth. Welcome home to Glenda (Carter) Morrison and Darryl and Amanda who have moved from St. Jacob's to Brussels. Glenda is organist at both Duff's United, Walton and Brussels United Church. Away hunting in Northern Quebec two weeks ago were Lorne Glanville, Harold and Paul McCallum, and Chris Poland. They were hunting caribou and were successful, with each of them getting-two. There certainly was lots of snow around here for the second deer hunt. Hunters were struggling through very deep snow and were finding it difficult to find and scare out the deer. One group of hunters that included Barry and Ben Hoegy, Paul McCallum and Steve Dennis were successful in getting three deer including a six-point buck. The Campbell gang that includes Ken, Geoff, and Darrell Dalton, Mike Campbell, Dave McClure, Doug Smale,- Doug Fry, Dennis Murray, Tom Johnston, Jonathon Hugill and the four Mikes - Boven, Devereaux, Smale and DeJong also agreed that it was tough hunting with all the deep snow. They were successful in getting seven deer with one being an eight-point buck. The Sawmill Road Christmas Parade that is a neighbourhood gathering of friends had a rather stormy afternoon on Sunday for their parade of machinery. There was a combine, manure spreader, skid steer, corn planter, tractor and stone picker and other tractors and even Santa. The rather chilly participants completed the parade and gathered at Gord and Irma Pryce's for a potluck supper and Christmas cheer. Good show everyone! Wednesday was a long day for Harold, Ron, Betty, Paul and Dianne McCallum as they travelled to Dayton, Ohio to attend the funeral of a long-time family friend, Mary Yost. It was also a sad time for Marilyn McDonald as she and son Bruce McDonald attended the funeral of son in law, Paul Flaxbard's mother, in Zurich. Paul is married to daughter Cathy. Andrew Van Vliet is not so happy these days as his hockey career is on hold for six to eight weeks because of a badly broken arm. He plays for the Triple AAA Huron Perth Lakers PeeWee team and broke the arm during ,a game. McGavin Farm Equipment and Farm Supply employees had their Christmas party on Saturday evening at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre along with many other businesses. There were approximately 16 employees and their guests as well as the McGavin families. An enjoyable meal and evening was had by all. Visiting with Don and Monique Baan and family on the weekend were Monique's brother John and wife Jody. Also joining them on Sunday were other members of Monique's family including John and Julia Vanostaayen, her parents and sister Linda and James. They were all on hand to help celebrate little Emma's birthday. She will be two on Dec. 14. Chris Lee spent the weekend in Toronto at the International Bike Show. He was there to promote the Transcan in Walton in August. The Walton Hall board held its euchre tournament last week with only six tables of players. The lucky first-place winners were Norine Park and Clarence Hoy with 86 points. The second place couple were Lavern and Greta Hoegy with 75 points and third place pair winners were Bea Stoll and Betty Hulle5r The lucky lone hand winners were Marjorie Smith and Wayne Robinson. There will be one more euchre on Dec. 19 before Christmas and hopefully a few more will he attending. The Hall board was also busy on Saturday as well. The Vista Villa Farms, Robinson family held their employee Christmas party at the hall. They enjoyed a lovely dinner prepared by members of the Hall board and then enjoyed a social evening of games and visiting. They had decorated the hall with lovely Christmas trees and greenery and it looked very festive. The Walton Hall is available for rent for many smaller type functions and information about the hall can be obtained by calling 887-6735. The falling of all this snow has the Continued on page 13
