Couple celebrates golden day
brother, Ted, as bestman and ushers
were Jack Tiffin, a brother-in-law
and Roy Robinson, a friend.
After the reception the couple
travelled to London to stay at the
London Hotel. The bridal suite cost
$11.52.
The next day they went to Niagara
Falls and stayed at a hotel on
Lundy's Lane for a night before
crossing the border to Rochester
New York. They returned home
through Ganonoque, Belleville and
Toronto.
The newlyweds resided with
Sam's parents on the Donnybrook
farm they later purchased. They
lived there until 1980 when they
retired t_2 Wingham.
Sam had been trained as a
mechanic for World War II and this
came in quite handy, repairing
equipment on the farm. Anne had
trained as a registered nursing

tied for second place and will
advance to District level. The other
comrades having fun were Ken and
Linda Bird, Margo Richardson, Clint
Emmrich, Jason Breckenridge, Ron
Schmidt, Andy Overholt, Mike
Dauphin, John Harrison, Gary
Dauphin, Eric Ross and Doug Koch.
A celebration took place at the
Wingham Legion, Nov. 30 to honour
a former East Wawanosh couple on
the occasion of their golden
anniversary.
The former Shirley (Anne)
Chamney, daughter of Cecil and
-a-Beatrice and John Samuel (Sam or
Tommy) Thompson, son of Norman
and Mabel were married at the
Belgrave United Church, Dec. 6,
1952. The ceremony was performed
by Rev. Charles Cox.
A wedding dinner was held at the
Queens Hotel in Wingham then 50
guests gathered at the Chamney
Belgrave home.
Maid of honour for the day was
June Han-is, a friend of the bride,
who later married the groom's
cousin. Ruth Tiffin, the bride's sister
was bridesmaid. Sandra Chamney, a
cousin of the bride was flowergirl.

active and driving force in Branch
218 Brussels as well as being active
in Zone and District levels as well.
On hand for the presentation were
many Branch members as well as
many of Friday night diners. Special
guests attending were Zone
Commander Bob Grey and wife
from Kincardine and Deputy District
Commander Eric Ross.
Glenn's wife Jean smuggled his
uniform to the Branch so he could be
dressed appropriately for the
presentation and the kitchen staff
kept him busy upstairs until it was
time to bully him into changing.
Glenn was completely surprised and
we congratulate him on this
wonderful honour bestowed to him.
Saturday was the usual euchre
tournament and there were 10 tables
of avid players. The lucky couple to
take first place with 83 points were
Bea and Stewart Rowley. coming in
second was Jim Coultes and partner
George with 70 points and close
behind for third place was Bush
Whittard and Olave Papple with 68
points. The lucky lone hand winners
were Viola Kirkby and Jim
McGillawee.
There will be one more Christmas
euchre on Dec. 21 before the end of
2002.
There were 16 Comrades away
playing team darts at the Clinton
Branch on Saturday. The team of
Steve Cochrane, Wade Henderson,
assistant in Toronto and worked for
HomeCare for a number of years.
Together they raised six children.
John, born in 1954 married Joyce
Taylor in 1974. They live in West
Wawanosh. . They have two
daughters, Michelle and Danielle.
Susan, born in 1955 married Gordon
Haggitt in 1975. They have two
sons, Chad and Michael and a
daughter Leanne and reside in Blyth.
Murray was born in 1956. He
married Doreen Jefferson in 1991.
They have two children, Loretta and
Wesley They farm the same property
his parents did. Jane, born in 1960,
married Stephen Bromley in 1980.
They had two sons, Matthew and
Orrey. Jane was tragically killed in a
car accident on Feb. J 7, 1999.
Ellen, born in 1962, married
Ronald Huya in 1994. She lives in
Cheektowaga, NY.
Julie, born in 1969 lives in
London.
Sam is a member of the Legion
and continues to tinker on his wood
and metal lathes, making deacon's
benches and repairing mechanical
devices.
He served in World War H with the
4th anti tank, 5th armoured division,
attached to the 98th battery from
Port Elgin. He was a rnotorvehicle
fitter and armoured fighting vehicle
fitter but classified as a trooper and
engaged in fighting in Italy, France,
and Germany and finished the war
out in Holland.
Anne is an avid bridge player and
a member of the United Church
Women in Wingham.
Both enjoy watching the local
hockey talent every week.
The 50th anniversary afternoon tea
was attended by 200 guests. The
inclement weather didn't keep Marg
and Eleanor Pringle from
Chatsworth away or Sandra and
John McCormick. Bob Taylor from
Kitchener and numerous other
guests from Goderich also attended.
The immediate family and
wedding party attended the Fireside
Cafe just outside of Wingham for a
homestyle dinner.
Congratulations to those who
advance.
Yes 2002 is coming very close to
the end and membership dues are
due for 2003. New Year's Eve
tickets are now available at the
Branch and are $5. It is potluck.
The next general meeting is Dec.
19 at 6:30 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 6, the euchre party at
the Cranbrook Hall was hosted by
Beryl and Lloyd Smith, Mery
Schneider and Eleanor Stevenson.
