THE CITIZEN. WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2002. PAGE 3
The children's hymn was A
Candle is Burning. The children
came to the front and presented their
white gifts for the Huron County
Christmas Bureau. Rev. Eugene
Bannerman's story to them was
about the first Christmas stocking
and how the children of a poor
family had hung their stockings in
the fireplace to dry and a priest had
thrown coins down the chimney and
they had landed in the stockings.
Everyone had a coin in their
stocking the next morning. All the
children reached into the stocking he
had and received a chocolate instead
of a coin.
The Choral Kids sang two more
Christmas numbers. Rev.
Bannerman thank them on behalf of
the congregation.
The dramatized reading was from
Isaiah 40: 1- 1 1. Those participating
were Amanda, Brandilyn and Wyatt
Bearss, Chelsea and Amelia Carter-
Brown, Aleisha Dale, Nicole Meier
and Meghan Watson.
Psalm 85 was read responsively.
The Gospel reading was from Mark
1: 1-8.
Rev. Bannerman's message to the
adults was entitled The Story of the
Huron Carol. A group of French
missionaries from France and
Quebec set out by canoe and
travelled to a remote settlement of
the Huron nation, just north of where
Barrie is today. Their purpose was to
bring Christianity to the Huron
people. One priest composed the
Christmas story .as a poem in the
Huron language and set the poem to
music of a French song he had
learned. This became the Huron
Carol.

Lloyd Sippel. Ushering were Les
and Evelyn Caldwell. Guest
musicians were Lynda Lentz-
MacGregor playing the organ and
the Choral Kids directed by Annie
Sparling.
The Choral Kids favoured the
congregation with two Christmas
numbers.
