THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2002. A NOTE FROM BETTY Oh what fun! Saturday night at BMG was a combination community Christmas party, a 25th Reunion of the movers and shakers of 1977 and a time to recognize our new municipality Huron East and its people. Jim Prior was MC, just like he was at the opening ceremonies of the brand spanking new Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. A copy of the original program was part of the evening's agenda which helped At the Branch By Jo-Ann McDonald The Branch has been saddened with the news of the passing of both a Branch and Auxiliary member, Doreen Rutledge. She has been a patient in Seaforth hospital for quite awhile and passed away on Saturday evening. The funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. with lunch following at the Branch. There will be many who. will remember Doreen as a good worker and quite a character at times. We will miss her sense of humour and smiling face. Our condolences to her sons, John and Gerald and family. The Ladies Auxiliary began last week with a Christmas potluck and meeting. They had a wonderful meal and time together, The ladies catered to the Shorthorn cattle producer meal and meeting on Wednesday evening, They, of course, were served delicious roast beef. acknowledge the many folks who gave land, time and talent for the good of the Brussels area in the 1970s. As we reviewed the past years we recognized.. the work ethic, the community commitment and the huge dream that we made reality. Wow and Holy Cow! By the year end the building was paid for — over $900,000. It was good to review the combination of the times, the people and the work that made our community centre special. And then to see the younger members of our community (that would be anyone not involved in getting the building up and running) or less than 40 — enjoying the evening and all ready to keep up the good work that makes Brussels so special. Oh to be in the midst of dreamers who know how to follow a dream. Once again the women kept reality The Thursday evening darts had 16 taking aim at the boards. The lucky darters for,the night were John Harrison and Lawrence Machan. Coming in second were Terry Buchanan and Julie Harrison. Once again committed folks were getting the masses organized for the good of all. Thank you for the evening of memories, good food, music and laughter. The Municipality of Huron East recognized the good citizens in our midst on Saturday night with the first Citizenship Award. Rene Richmond and Bill and Gertie Kellington were honoured for their, giving natures and the many good deeds they do for-others. We are fortunate to have them here and we need to follow their example of giving back to community so quietly, by Terry and the ladies was Cathy Cochrane with 120. Everyone is welcome. Start time is 8 p.m. The Friday night supper of chicken wings was enjoyed by a great crowd and this week is lasagna. The next Friday night, Dec. 20, is potluck and voluntary gifts exchange. The school concert is on Thursday night with dress rehearsal on Wednesday morning. The church choirs held an evening of song on Sunday — a chance for the community to hear their musical talents for this season. At the United Church on Sunday Sheila Richards (dressed in snazzy vest and slacks) performed at the organ — showing our congregation what a few organ lessons and lots of practice can produce. And to show she did know what she was doing with Grace Jutzi at piano and Glenda Morrison — the regular organist, and Sheila played a trio on the ivories. Well done! The white stuff is here in abundance so enjoy it and the mood of the season. Bye now, Betty G. W.
