THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2002. PAGE 19_
Area Eastern Star members attend meeting
Several members of the Huron
Chapter Order of the Eastern Star
were present at the Wingham
Cenotaph on Nov. 11 as Doreen
Tyrrell, Worthy Matron and Denis
Langridge, Worthy Patron laid a
wreath on behalf of the Chapter.
The regular meeting on Nov. 12
was well attended by members from
Wingham, Bluevale, Belgrave,
Brussels and Lucknow. A minute of
silence was observed, after which a
suitable poem was read and our
national flag placed in its honoured
station in the east.
The Warm Heads, Hands and Feet .
project was wound down and
Captain Neil Voce of the Wingham
Citadel of the Salvation Army
accepted 35 hats, 120 pairs of
Red
Shield
campaign
underway
Once again the Salvation Army is
gearing up for another Christmas
season, with its official kick off, of
this year's Christmas Kettle
campaign being Nov. 30 outside the
Thrift Store on Josephine St.,
Wingham.
Throughout the year the Salvation
Army is there to assist people in
times of need, but the need at
Christmas can be the greatest,
whether it's the meal on the table,
the presents under the tree, or
maybe even the tree itself.
The Candles for Kids tree will be
at the Salvation Army Thrift Store
with candles for kids of all ages.
Captain Neil Voce encourages
people to pick up a candle, buy a
present and leave it under the tree in
the store window.
Get Behind the Shield is the
theme that the Army is using
because people know that when
they see the red shield of the
Salvation Army no matter what time
of the year, or circumstance they
find themselves in, there is Hope.
Households and businesses
within the area will be receiving or
will have received mailers in their
mailboxes with information about
making donations.
Donations can be made through
the familiar Christmas Kettles, or
mailed to The Salvation Army, Box
610, Wingham, ON NOG 2W0.
mittens and 33 pairs of slippers for
distribution to needy families in this
area. These items were all knitted
and crocheted in the past eight
weeks, by members of Huron
Chapter No 89 Order of the Eastern
Star and their friends, from as far
away as Maryland.
The emphasis will now shift to the
Worthy Matron's Project, which is to
raise funds for the cancer care clinic
at Wingham and District Hospital.
Funds will be raised from various
sales, catering and donations.
Members of the Order of the Eastern
Star actively pursue various
