Brussels Livestock report
Lambs sell $5 to $10 higher, reach $227
Total receipts for the week ending
Nov. 21 were 4,394 head of cattle,
689 lambs and goats. On Tuesday
the fed steers and heifers sold $1 to
$2 higher. Cows sold on a steady
market. On Thursday veal sold at
steady prices with lambs selling $5
to $10 higher. On Friday all weights
and classes of stockers sold on a
good strong active trade.
There were 483 steers on offer
selling from $99 to $105 with sales
to $114.50. Allan Lewis. Ailsa
Craig, consigned one limousin steer
weighing 1,475 lbs. which sold to
Holly Park Meat Packers for
$114.50. His overall offering of forty
steers averaged 1,452 lbs. for an
average of $105.16. One limousin
steer consigned by Jim Howatt,
Londesboro, weighed 1,435 lbs.
selling to Norwich Packers for
$112.50. His overall offering of
twenty-five steers averaged 1,426
lbs. for an average price of $103.49.
Merkley Farms, Wroxeter,
consigned twelve limousin steers
averaging 1,330 lbs. selling for an
average of $107.99 with sales up to
$110. Thirteen steers consigned by
Ivan B. Weber, Paisley, averaged
1,452 lbs. selling for an average of
$102.45 with his top limousin steer
weighing 1,475 lbs. selling to Holly
Park Meat Packers for $110.50. B &
T Farms, Ailsa Craig, consigned one
black steer weighing 1,400 lbs.
which sold to Norwich Packers for
$106.25. Their overall offering of
five steers averaged 1,631 lbs.
selling for an average of $101.59.
One limousin steer consigned by
Gilbert Janssen, Hanover, weighed
1,230 lbs. selling to Highland
Packers Ltd. for $110.50. His overall
consignment of six steers averaged
1,345 lbs. selling for an average of
$101.20. Murray Shiell, Wingham,
consigned twenty-two steers
averaging 1,482 lbs. which sold for
an average of $101.13 with his top
limousin steer weighing 1,450 lbs.
selling for $106.25. One red steer
consigned by Jim Wilson, Lucknow,
weighed 1,360 lbs. selling to
Norwich Packers for $106.25. His
overall offering of seven steers
averaged 1,434 lbs. selling for an
average of $100.79.
Neil Thompson, Atwood,
Ernst and Stefan Gubelmann of
Walton were big winners at the
Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in.
Toronto.
Their Brown Swiss brought home
awards: first, female, senior calf,
born Sept. 1, 2001 to Nov. 30, 2001;
second, female, summer yearling,
June 1, 2001 to Aug. 31, 2001; third
and sixth, female, junior calf, March
1, 2002 to May 31, 2002; fourth and
ninth, female, intermediate calf,
Dec. 1,2002 to Feb. 28, 2002; third,
female junior yearling, March 1,
2001 to May 31, 2001 and fourth,
female intermediate yearling, Dec.
1, 2000 to Feb. 28, 2000.
For the older animals, the herd
earned: first and fourth, female,
three-year-old, Sept 1, 1998 to Aug.
31, 1999 and fourth, female, junior
two-year-old, March 1, 2000 to May
31, 2000.
In the junior division for Brown
Swiss, the Gubelmanns took lemale
reserve grand champion and third
for junior herd.

There were 264 heifers on offer
selling from $99 to $105 with sales
to $107. John A. Elliott, Ripley,
consigned four black heifers
.averaging 1,036 lbs. which sold to
Norwich Packei4 for $107. His
overall offering of twenty-six heifers
averaged 1,148 lbs. for an average
price of $102.26. Eight heifers

Brussels, averaged 1,218 lbs. selling
for an average of $101.94 with his
top grey heifer weighing 1,225 lbs.

weighed 1,185 lbs. selling to Holly
Park Meat Packers for $105.50. His
overall offering of ten heifers
averaged 1,170 lbs. and sold for an
average price .of $100.31. Stan
Francis, Kirkton, consigned one
black heifer weighing 1,315 lbs.
which sold to. Packerland Packing
Co. for $103. His overall offering of
thirteen heifers averaged 1,232 lbs.

Quebec Brown Swiss Association
Trophy for the reserve grand
champion and the Bruce and Norma
Mason Trophy for the first-prize

There were 362 cows on offer. D1
and D2 cows sold $50 to $57 with
sales to $86.50. D3, $45 to $50; D4,

cow weighing 1,480 lbs. which sold
to Packerland Packing Co. for
$86.50. One holstein cow consigned
by Warren Weppler & Sons,
Clifford, weighed 1,955 lbs. selling
to Packerland Packing Co. for
$68.50. Trevor Pfeffer, Ayton,
consigned one RWF cow weighing
1,560 lbs. which sold to Aylmer
Meat Packers for $66.
There were 33 bulls on offer
selling from $57 to $80 with sales to

earned fourth in the Syngenta
Queen's Guineas and fourth at the
Group 4 sale.

4-H honours
Kathryn Alton of the Lucknow Beef Club recerVed the
Murray Cardiff Citizenship Trophy from Mr. Cardiff at an
awards ceremony recently. The award is presented to the
top 4-H member in Huron County who best exemplifies the
goals and aims of 4-H. Other nominees were Michelle
DeWit, Rebecca Bruton, Jon Drennan, Tonya Drost and
